Hi All, There must be a thread on the subject of Converting an air cooled engine to LPG. I've always thought that LPG burns hotter than petrol and so air cooled engines may not be suitable to convert to Gas? As I was just looking at someone's van on here I noticed that it was running on LPG. Ok, here's where I'm at. We have already had a line bore on our block to correct the end float. This was some years ago now. I might be wrong but the block may have had the procedure done before that? Anyway here we are back at the point when the engine ticks over faster in neutral with the clutch in. Little embarrassing patches of oil are appearing underneath the van. At some point a new engine will be required. When it is, would LPG be the way to go? The body work of the van will have to get primary attention and the engine will be sorted after that is done. So it'll be a while. Can any one point me to an LPG thread....just for future reference?

I'll bare them in mind when I get to that point in my rolling repair. Thanks for the heads up.

I've been on LPG for almost 2 years now, done about 50K. This is in my beetle. It's been spot on to be honest, I've not had any issues with it at all. Steve at Gasure sorted out the installation, and did a great job. Cost about £1100, I'd have done it myself but the first time fitting flammable gas stuff? Nope, getting that done by a professional.

It sounds a bit like you're not sure about your engine- before you splash out on a new one, ask around on here. Oil leaks are generally nothing to be worriesdabout and can be sorted easily, your engine should last at least 150k before giving up.

Mines running on LPG and I've had no issues at all in the last 4 years. Self install, started with a mixer ring inline with the air hose but couldn't get it running quite right. Swapped that out for a blos carb and it runs really nice now. Hardly ever run it on petrol these days.
