Main beam 'tale tale' light issues.

The main beam light on the dashboard hasn't worked for years and now it comes into the mot. Ive fitted a new bulb and the only time it comes on is when the dipped beam is switched on!!

The light doesn't change at all with the main beam activated.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the bulb holders on the back of the instrument binnacle
Some of them can be installed in the wrong position/be blown or have a dodgy contact
I guess your main beam works as it should on the outside and you can hear the relay click in and out?
My guess is a dodgy contact or broken wire to the back of the dash

Sounds like its wired incorrectly? If it doesn't change when you flick to main beam is it wired up to the dipped/side? If wired to the side light it would light up always.

I haven't changed any wiring on it. Used to work fine then stopped working and now this issue???

Don't think it's needed to pass mot. IIRC only required post 72.

That's interesting. Is there somewhere I can copy this information for the re test?
