Hello all,

Due to a new addition to the family i'm gonna be lugging a lot more stuff around next year and i dont want too much stuff flying around in the back when negotiating roundabouts etc, so i feel a trailer might be the answer. Looking at the JK site i'm basically paying £150 for several lengths of angle iron for a towbar kit, could i fabricate a similar setup myself or is this a big no no :x . All input appreciated,

James

My rear bumper has a towbar ball in the middle. I'm replacing it one without a towbar ball. I can take a photo tomorrow if you're interested?

I could have done you swap  . No seriously have you towed with it like that? and was it ok :?: . i can stand on my rear bumper without it dropping off :p so it should be ok, after all i'm not talking twin axle caravans just a 3x4ft trailer ;)

Gadget is selling some towbars that hes has had made, mght be worth a PM to try and get some dimensions.
The tow bar that came on my van (is now on Leon's  ) was just as you described a few lengths of angle iron that attaches to the mounting points in the chassis (although fouled with anything other than a standard exhaust hence why i sold it) where as i think the 1's gadget is selling mount to the bumper mounts.

Ok cool, the one which fits my bumper brackets would be best because i cant undo the bolts which hold the bumper mounts to the chassis. ;)

Thanks 8)

What van you got?

This is my rear bumper which comes off in the new year. I've never towed with it.
