Regrettably the time has come to sell our 1973 VW Beetle. Details and photos can be found here:

The car has been owned by us for 17 years (since 1994) and until the last couple of years had a great deal of time, money and effort lavished on it.
A growing family, demanding jobs and too many other old Volkswagens means this one needs to go.
Until 2004 the car was a daily driver, between then and 2010 it was driven less frequently.
The MOT expired in May 2010 and since this time the car has been SORN’d. We didn’t bother putting it in for its last MOT as we knew it would fail.
1600 Engine runs well and pulls nicely. Brakes, suspension and electrics are all fine but it will need a bit of welding done in order to get it through the MOT and back on the road. I’ve chalked out what I believe needs welding and have photographed these areas. In my opinion this is what needs doing:
1. Welding required to very front of left side bulkhead/floorpan area
2. Inner rear wing areas directly behind quarter panels need attention/ patching
3. Rear bumper mounting areas of the rear of inner wings need attention/ patching
In 2001 the car was professionally stripped, rebuilt/restored and resprayed in Metallic Blue. In the last couple of years the paint has started to age. Micro blistering to the roof and minor cracking is evident in some areas of the paintwork.
The car is fitted with Centreline style wheels and tyre tread is good. The original front wings where replaced with sloping headlamp style ones and Bosch pre-67 headlamp units fitted.
The original engine lid was replaced by a fibreglass 50s style W decklid and T-handle. US spec towel rail bumpers have been fitted. These are fair weather chrome items and the finish has seen better days. These can easily be replaced.
The interior was retrimmed with white TMI seat covers and matching door panels. A Blaupunkt CD player is fitted in the dash with Pioneer speakers on the rear parcel shelf. The original dash knobs have been replaced with billet style ones from Machine 7. A Chrome and grey sports steering wheel compliments the switches. Chrome window winders, one piece windows. Both winder mechanisms need freeing up as they’re pretty stiff.
Receipts for 1600cc recon engine fitted 2003 and welding to front clip, spare wheel area, near side floor pan and front torsion beam in 2007. We’ve covered hardly any miles since this work was done.
We’ve put a reserve on this car of £1000.
We think that reflects the welding work that needs to be done to get it back on the road and the condition of the paintwork. It’s far from a basket case, and could be a very easy project for the right person. We will be sorry to see it go but needs must…
Remember by bidding you are committing to buy. Although the car starts on the key first time every time, drives and stops fine it cannot be driven away legally.
