Hi,

Can anybody recommend an engineering firm that can reduce earlybay driveshafts?

Thank you,

Mike

Andy Robinson Race Cars does a lot of axle narrowing for yank stuff, they know there stuff, but is there enough meat on the axle to do this, re spline etc

Hey Neil. I don't think the axles are re-splined. I think it's more of a basic cut out a section and weld them back together. Any ideas on possible issues (with you being a smithy and all that) :)

Wouldn't of thought you cut and shut them, can't see the axle material lending itself to that. As far as I know all shortened axles are cut one end and resplined if there's enough meat there, or its a new custom axle. Pretty sure sway-a-way do shorter T1 IRS shafts, would they be usable, assuming they're the right length?
Just found this, sway-a-way seem to have it covered, but its close to $700...

Bit of rnd to do Mike.. Taylor Machine services may be able to help as well, but I reckon sway-a way are your answer.

Cheers Neil. The axles are for my bus - so I don't know if T1 axles will be any use but I'll forward the info on.

Apparently the place that narrowed the rear end of my bus had previously taken axles to a local engineering firm (in the Derby area) where they were then modified. This route is currently being pursued. Will let you know how I get on.

Quite a few people with Split buses have cut, sleeved and welded bay driveshafts.
The driveshafts have a machined surface, on a mates we had some thick steel sleeves made with an interference fit.
The sleeves were heated and pressed on and then welded with a big welder.
How much narrower than stock are you - I think some 944 driveshafts are slightly longer than bug ones
