Narrowing a beam

Was having a ponder the other night, how much work would be involved in making my own narrowed front beam? It's a 1970 lhd bay if that would make any difference.
 
Depends how good a welder you are really and how much time you have, you can buy laser cut end plates from people like Trailer Queen Restos for about £65 from memory to replace your stock towers which you need to cut off. Its all in the welding and getting everything lined up.

Personally I'd rather go to someone like Guy at Slamwerks and get him to supply a narrowed beam thats been done on a jig that you know will fit straight away and the cost is about £350.

Its a bit more complex than first impressions. That said, I'm going to be having a go on a spare beam in the new year.
 
Not a nice job cleaning ends off, then when you due you find you've got rot in the beam ends that you can't see.Before you cut anything off make a H section in centre of beam using inch box section to tie the tubes so they stay together

Sod it, i'll just buy 1 if i choose to go narrow, getting it low is the main thing really i can't bear the thought of another night of abuse because its stock height........ Graham L ;)
