Is there a how-to for this?
Would like to fit some 6" wheels on my '71 but don' t want them to stand out to much.

6" wheels will fit if the offset is high, maybe use a spacer too, narrow 5 rear is narrower than wide5 and I run 6" teledials with spacers

Got 7 inch wide rims on mine at the back - isnt really a homebrew job (or wasnt for me)
Narrowing the rear involves some pretty major work
It includes narrowing the rear torsion housing, installing short axles and tubes, custom A-arms and relocating the shock attachment points among other bits and pieces
Evil Ben did the work for me

Looks like yours is a 71, so IRS? Your axles will be the sticking point. There's an article in Hayburner this month from Rapid Rodent racing, custom axles with inner UJ's. I'm sure there are other ways, but cutting, pinning and welding them isn't one as a friend of mine found out on his narrowed rear bus, they snap.
Sway-a-way make custom axles, which is another option.
