i Really need help on my bus, please would someone assist me with the things like paint colour, seat cover colours and other important things to know, And what type of Bus my one is

The Chassis number is : 2412235299

OK, the prefix 24 means yours is a Microbus Deluxe (nice!)

As far as I know SA buses should have a M / Chassis Plate on the bulkhead (behind the drivers seat I think) - its a black plate with silver writing and sections where chassis no and "m codes" are stamped by hand. These codes can then be decoded using this website:

http://vw-mplate.com/mcode.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If your plate is missing its clearly going to be a lot harder to sort out. In the UK there is a way of writing to our vehicle licensing agency and finding out previous owner's contact details, but don't know how it works round your way.

A good book is "VW Transporter and Microbus Specification Guide 1967-1979": http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transporter-Microbus-Specification-Guide-1967-1979/dp/1861267657" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi,

I'm sure someone will explain this in more detail however if your bus was built in SA then you're gonna be struggling for m-codes. I've got a S067R and have had similar problems, SA buses were made as kits in primer in Germany then put together and painted with optional extras fitted in SA, therefore they didn't have m-codes, if you put up some pics of your bus people may be able to help with the paint (if it's the original colour) unless it's a South African only colour,

Sorry for the bad news but hope it helps!

Matt

P.S - See How friendly we are? If only the folks down on aircooledvwsa.co.za were as gelpful to us Brits! :lol:

As far as I know the South African buses didn't have the M-code plate. Apparently no one knows why.
Your best bet is to send a mail to Volkswagen in Germany to try and get a certificate. For a smaal fee they will look into the history of your bus and send you a certificate with all the codes, upholstery, paint etc.
However, they are not always a 100 % correct with their findings.

thanks for all the help
here are some pics:

This is the South African CKD type plate I was thinking of:

(photo credit to wheelerdealer.de)

It only really seems to give the paint code over and above model and chassis numbers

This is an example of an m-plate:

This is interesting. I have a SA bus but my kit didn't come from Germany it came from Brazil. It was then sold as new in the uk in 1972. So I have the SA black plate and also a M plate. Pretty weird but then it's a pretty daft bus!! ;) Sorry I know this doesn't help your search. Best of luck

Ok sorry i've also found this didn't think it was important so i didn't put it on
Is this an M-plate ???

Saw this thread on thesamba.com:

Page 32 of 39 has a picture posted by "rewagon" of a plate he has on a 76 late SA bay. He goes on to say (2 posts later) that some bays were shipped to SA from Brazil. Don't know if this helps or not, as I appreciate yours is an early but looking at the codes and layout, I think there are some similarities??
