Going to be changing my Accelerator and both Heat exchanger cables this weekend, weather permitting, Any hints or tips?
The acc' cable i ordered is just the cable not the sheath, dont know if this is a good thing or not?
The heat Exch' cables are complete with sheathing.

Before you remove a cable attach a length of mig welding wire securely to the end of the original cable so that you can re attach it to the new cable and pull it back through.

My accelerator cable didn't have a sheath either I believe thats how they are.

For the heat exchanger cables there are some plastic grommet type things that clip into the carrier tube at the engine end. These seem essential to the operation of the cables as they hold the sheathing in place in the tube and thus allow the cable itself to move, if that makes sense. These have to come out to get the new cable in. They are cut in half through one side so they will open up enough to go over the cable, they then have to push back into the tube in the right position. When i did mine the engine was out and they were a little tricky to get out, and then one was difficult to get back in. If the engine is in, it may be one hell of a job. I wasn't aware of these clips as i hadn't seen them in any catalogue. I know this may all sound odd but when you see them it will all make sense. Also, at the engine end the sheathing itslef had rusted to the tube. Pulling it from front end only stretched the sheathing into a long spiral. If yours have rusted try and release them but pushing them from the engine end by tapping them with a long thin flat bladed screwdriver and hammer. Once released it was all pretty straightforward, didn't have to remove the dash/either.

Didn't take that long but as i say the engine was out.

Good luck Al

Use plenty of grease on the hew heater cable sheaths before you put them back in, this should stop the ceasing in the tubes in future.

Accelerator cable took about 15 mins
The heater cables are still on the floor :x , still cant work out how the little white clips on the end of the solid conduit work so through brute ignorance i cut the cable (it was snapped anyway) and pulled the cable out, the sheath i just yanked out but now cant get the new cable through the white grommet thing, how does this come out?

They pull out to the side, ie at right angles to the conduit, not from the end. From memory each side pulls to the center of the bus. Might need a thin screwdriver to help prise them out, be careful as when you realise how they work (you will when they're out) you'll also realise you need them to allow the cables to work.

Sat back, took a long hard look at them, had a cup of tea and about 1 hour later both cables where renewed and adjusted.
Another job to tick off the list 8)

Heater cables is a another job on my ever growing list. Sounds like patience is the key here ;)
