across the road from where i live probably 100yds or so is a pain in the ass guy with a scooby who goes to to work at 4:30am yes AM and insists on sitting outside his house for ten minutes every morning WARMING his engine even just in wet weather so not defrosting his windscreen,

i'm not normally a killjoy or have i ever ratted on a neighbour for anything but as you can imagine at 4:30 in the morning when everything else is quiet it's effing loud and manages to wake me and the wife up.

does anyone work for a council and have an idea if can make a reasonable complaint, if he just got in it and buggered off might not be so bad but what possible need does he have to run it for that long just sat there, over christmas we sat in a dining room and he got in it ran the engine for five minutes or so, drove off and arrived back a few minutes later with a bottle of milk.....! he sat there for longer than it took him to go round the corner and buy his milk

starting to get hacked off now..

lol - the message that someone has a very talented dog :D

it does amaze me how people just don't consider anyone else? Surely they must realise the noise travels..... First advise would be to have a word along the lines of "just wondering why you idle your car for so long? Only mention it as it wakes up all the neighbours" kind of way...?

wrap some dog **** in news paper and set fire to it on door step then ring bell and bugger off, he will come out see paper burning and stamp it out ...... you get the idea

Post ******* through his letterbox at 4am. Hopefully he won't see it and open front door at 4.30 then smearing it across the carpet. That'll teach him a lesson

Sent from my iPhone using my sausage fingers

Theres a lot of scatophiles in the forum today.....

pull him up on it then if it persists call the council, he'll get a letter through the door warning him, if it persists they send environmental out and confirm noise levels and issue him with a formal warning, you get the message....

Then climb up under his motor and smear ******* all over the engine exhaust etc he'll be puking his ring up when he climbs in after 10 mins of the car warming up....

maybe start by asking him nicely not to do it first??? He may completely unaware he is causing offence/disturbance...just a thought ;)

sound like ******* is defo the way forward

Maybe put a polite but direct note on his windscreen letting him know his noise pollution is causing some concern.

If that doesnt work I would happily donate some dog poo for you to apply to his front path/door/windows

I'd go with the ask nicely first and see what happens.

If you get no joy then there has actually been a law against stationary idling for a while now, perhaps you could gently remind him of that.

Bugger the ask nicely approach!!!
......get over there and knock the chav out, rip his head off and force dog poo down his throat......

Must be something with scooby owners. Had a total ******** that used to live a few doors up from me. A serial scooby owner, used to buy them, fiddle with them and they would usually leave on a tow truck after a few months.

His sunday morning routene was fire it up, rag the **** out of the cold engine, let it sit and idle whilst he cleaned it inside and out, open the bonnet, rag the **** out of it for another half hour and then turn it straight off. It was a perfect example of how to cause the most wear to your engine and turbo

Very glad when I saw the for sale board go up!

Dont post a note, or stick a note on his car. Knock on his door and speak to him face to face. I hate people that leave notes, winds me up something cronic.

Explain the situation, he may not realise. Then if he is an arse and you **** him up at least it is justified ;-)

Must be a terribly English thing but you need to send him a letter, hand post it so you know he got it. Be nice, advise him that he may not be aware but he is disturbing your sleep, or creating a nuisance. If your friendly with other neighbours get them to do the same. If it continues you need to gather evidence record the sound and time, a video camera is best. Then you can talk to the council, or in this case the police as any exhaust that much noise isn't legal, there is a law governing this on motor vehicles, but that's only if you really want to get on his case, a second letter advising your future action should be sent if it continues, at all times be nice. Had a neighbour who wanted the play and old fashion organ at four in the morning this is what you need to do

The council do nothing other than waste everyone's time, they will send someone to do a decibel count at his exhaust, then a decibel count from where the complaint was made (your window?) then just go home.
Regardless of how loud it seems, it won't be above the 80db limit (or what ever it is) so they can't do anything.
I owned a prestine example uk 300 scooby a few years back, completely standard and drove it like a normal car, my mate had the same car with loads of engine mods and stupid exhaust, he used to let it run to 'warm' it up to avoid turbo wear etc, guess who's got blown up? I'm sure it's all a myth about these cars?

His neighbour complained about the noise to the police and council, they paid a visit to check things out then ended up warning the neighbour not to waste police time and to stop harassing my mate!! That's ridiculous!

If being civil fails, I know some lovely fella's  who have done work in the past for myself & family, sure we could arange an EarlyBay discount. ;)

run a pipe from his exhaust to his fresh air intake.
after ten minutes go across the road and turn the engine off and call for a meat wagon.
