Well Hannah (the wife) has wanted to start a catering business for a long time now and we've finally taken the plunge! She will be selling quality burgers and pulled pork sandwiches (amongst other things) from a 70's Eriba puck. We are just in the process of converting it and the first show should be Skeg Vegas in August provided it all goes well. We will also be at field of dreams in York the week after, if you see us come over and say hello :D we may even be giving some food away nearer the time so watch out for a post if you want a free lunch at a show.

As we got the puck:

Sounds awesome, good luck I hope it works well.
I would be really interested in seeing how you fit the puck out for catering. Any photos?

All the best peps
Some ov these chaps on here give me advice on stuff I don't know about which I really appreciate !
I started a business 11 years ago
Just a small bit of advice, the first 2/3 years can b hard but put the work in and work hard it will pay off
When it gets tough push harder
If yr determined you will make it
If I see u out n about ill munch on one ov ya burgers :)
Hope u do well

I remember reading on a business forum that you can make good money at festivals (music) provided you get the right location on site. Camp sites are good locations by the way for breakfast and supper ;)

Good to see that you are not following the dirty burger business model!

Cheers for all the kind words and advice guys. This will be a part time business for her, full time job is a catering tutor at a college. This means she can do it in the holidays and weekends relatively risk free but I'm sure she'll make a success of it.

There will be burgers but good ones! 100% beef with salad and not not the normal cardboard crap with processed cheese you get.

We have just stripped the interior out at the minute and have the worktops measured. Should be get some stainless made up in the next couple of weeks, will make sure I get some pictures of the process :D

Good luck to the both of you, i like a bit of chilli in my burger please, sourdough bun, homemade relish and some gurkin ........so hungry now....

I looked into the burger business some time ago, did the business plan etc. was going to call it BAPS ;)

Thanks again folk, it's good to get some encouraging words. Never quite sure if taking a bit of a risk like this is the right thing to do but you have to give them a try :) Hopefully if any of you get to try the food you will enjoy it, I know I've enjoyed the practice meals  I will try and get some pictures to make you all hungry next time she practices, that's if I don't scoff it down too quickly!

Here's the logo Hannah has chosen, eventually you'll probably see it as a banner up there ^^^^

Good luck. I am going to Skeg Vegas so will defo search you out for some pulled pork. :D

The pulled pork is my favourite thing on the menu, tastes amazing with a bit of coleslaw in a ciabatta :D

Cheers chaps, you may well have a puck to paint next year if it goes well 8)

Great idea with her existing line of work. I went to an awesome burger takeaway joint in Amsterdam .... Not your handmade burger company stuff but proper think out the box type recipes. It was rammed both times I went and the cheapest burger was 15 euro for a burger and salad. I know I digress but if you do nice stuff people will pay.... Not all but alot.

Incidentally my favourite was the Kobe beef.

Good luck, hope to see you and sample your delights sometime

Cheers
Nigel

Well things are starting to happen! The puck is undergoing a transformation (pics to follow) the griddle has arrived and tested and the obligatory facebook page is up https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pop-Top-Kitchen/165159493671001" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (like us!)

Skegvegas will be the first event but unfortunately we can't sell the burgers or pulled pork there :( there will be veggie options and possibly a fish option.

And on the plus side I've been getting some awesome meals as Hannah keeps experimenting for the menu :D

Thanks Rich :D

Action next year I guess? No plans for next year at the moment, concentrating on getting up and running first  Suggestions of events are welcome though so I'll add it to the list to look into :)
