As you can see thats a lovely gap

Garage where i took to have the work done ar'nt having any of saying and i quote THERES NO MORE WE CAN DO nice one!

so looks like im stuck with my earlybay with flared arches FU..........................TW...........................

so im open to suggestions!! anyone got any bright ideas :x

Small claims court you'll get the money back if nothing else.....

And I've moved it unless you were selling the arches.....

What other work was done to that area when they carried out repairs? Did the have the doors when the work was done? If you get nowhere with it, probably best to lower the bottom of the doors to match the dogleg, at least your get some good door gaps doing it that way.

But first call i`d go back to the people who done the work and ask them to rectify the work as it is not upto standard.

Good luck.

dont no how much of a headache would be going threw small claims court but your right they should'nt be allowed to get away with it

There was loads of work done
4 chassis ends
lower front panel
2 arcches complete sill both sies
4 outriggers&jacking points cargo floor rear hatch sides
middle and outer chassis beams
window v section
2 inner mud flap tub
cab floor
rear arches
b post
cargo floor
the list goes on!!

when you say lower the doors do you mean scarf a section in?

i no one thing its going to be drafty  i got a laugh if i dont i will go mad

also looking for another early bay competed for the summer as i dont think i will get this one ready and its pissed me right of!!!
anyone with an early let me no or pm me

cheers leon

Read your previous post. Best bet i think would be to seek legal advice (cab or solicitor) take all paperwork that you have with you. I think i would also send the company doing the work a letter stating what the problems are and what needs to be done to sort it, give them a realistic deadline to reply to you 5 to 10 working days. in the letter state that if a satisfactory conclusion to the problems can not be reached OR they fail to reply to you in writing by aforementioned date then you will consider taking legal action.
In the mean time talk to some one with some legal knowledge. also i would also contact trading standards. IF ALL ELSE FAILS NAME AND SHAME THE A*******S, you may just save someone else some heartache.
Keep us posted and good luck!!!

There are several pre71 buses with flared arches, its no biggie unless your a purist. Crossovers had flared arches anyway.

Have you fettled with the door (adjust the hinges) to see if you can get it to drop down any lower? as i dont think that gap is a problem with the arch, but with the way it was fitted. Replacing the arches as this late stage would be a real ball ache :( as would litigation :( .

You must have fitted a later cab floor? as the recess to the cab floor in the later arch would need correction too. If you retro fit earlier arches again you would need to plate this in too.

Cheers John

The doors are original
i cant drop the doors no more
I think im going to put a section on the bottom of the door,i no this is narly!
what you reckon?

were the arches spot or seem welded at the front? you may be able to drill them and brace the arch up with a jack under the weight of the bus and reweld. It seems they may have fitted the arches without fitting the door first :? .

with everything you've had done a slight error in every or some of them will compound the issue, get an independant mechanic to assess it in the flesh....

Do it once, do it properly.

No point having it in paint and being annoyed every time you look at it.

Whats the deal with that hole in the front panel as well?

this for the aerial but your right should get this filled in

that is not an acceptable door gap and any true proffesional body shop should not be passing that as acceptable work however i fear your case may not be as simple as suggested!

to be 'fair' to the garage that gap is a result of poor aftermarket panels and this is why they cannot/are not willing to do anything about it. Arch panels these days seem to have this inherent problem (check out how many buses have bad gaps like this next time your at a show....ive even seen mag featured vans like that!)

Bearing this in mind...Did you supply them with the panel? if so you could come unstuck here if you go legal as they will argue that the supplied parts are no good and you will need to 'claim' off of your supplier instead and to do this you will need the garage to be your friend as they will have to wirte and assessment of it. If they supplied the panel then they need to discuss it with their supplier or rectify it for you.

I had this problem with my arches which i fitted myself they were not only too short but also too tall resulting in the gap you have...it is possible to solve it by cutting the arch into 3or4 pieces and welding it back together with filler pieces on the top edge making it longer, and losing 5-10mm out of the vertical leg - however this is not a simple job. The best result however will be to remove it and fit a 'cut' from an original van.

whatever you do....dont carry on and get it sprayed - it is fixable and will annoy you every time you look at it.

I've been trying to get my money back from a garage that did work on my beetle for over a year now.
My beetle was given back to me with a engine that did'nt start, loose front wheel hubs, dangerous brakes and an inch of water in the footwells.
Trading standards are f@cking useless and I have paid the courts a total of £160 to try to get my money back...that was 9 months ago.
I won my claim, I filed for a baliff but no f@cking joy. A year later the guy has still got my old engine and £1200 of my money and I bet he's laughing his f@cking miserable little head off.
Go through the courts if you want it to drag out your life, living the same 5hit, falling out with your wife and family and work friends.
I would name and shame but the guy is a f@cking nutter who lives about two miles from my house.
I'm just glad I've now found a garage who won't rip me off.

I think I'm over it  but its still dragging on.

THANKS TO ALL YOU FELLAS!!! ;) ;) ;)
