My oil pump drive shaft is damaged as is the slot in the camshaft gearwheel where it locates. The damage is at one end (driven end) of both sides of the shaft. It would almost appear that it is too short for the job & it is being forced out. However the pump is the correct 26mm for the 4 rivet camshaft & gearwheel. There isn't much end float on the camshaft (0.19mm).

I'm not sure if a new pump will not fully cure, but would rather not have to buy a new camshaft aswell.

Any ideas why or is this normal for a high mileage engine? (Don't actually know the mileage).

I hope you can see it in the pic.

Thanks, Phil.

Looks like at some point in the past something jammed and got crunched up in the oil pump. Are the pump gears all in good order?

hello

i have just replaced mine and had the same problem on the pump flange

i assumed that the pump had been fitted slightly on the piss (twisted to the left or right)

Thanks Gents.

Just checked the pump gears & all are well with no signs of damage.
I guess it may just be the way they wear then like Norm's.

Norm did your camshaft slot also show signs of wear/damage?
Did you replace it too, or just the pump?

Phil.
