If u look at the van it is high spec. Lots of money spent and it is a good looking van. As has been said you have to chance your arm and why not. At the end of the day it's another van saved and on the road if it sells and the people who buy it are chuffed then all is well. Not forgetting they could end up as members on this site and then we would all be saying welcome great van more picks.

I wouldn't pay that much but then again I don't have the cash to spend that much. I would love it though.

30 odd grand ?

Thats the ultimate middle class dream camper right there, advertised with some pretty cushions and a nice shot outside the posh house, which shows more of the ******* house than the vehicle.

Notice there's no up close of the dubious fitting sliding door which seems open at the bottom yet shut at the top or of the underside which i bet is super shultztastic all over.

Maybe I'm being over cynical but it is never ever ever worth that amount of money, I'd want OG RHD dormobile with low miles and 1 owner from new that has lived in the owners house for its entire existence for that much cash.

Or a half decent pressed bumper 15 window..... :msn4:

Not sure why this is relevant at all to the discussion on value of bay... Can you not be middle class and live in a posh house and want/own a bay...

It could be that the guy who owns it doesn't realise what the likes of the members on her are looking for? I guess if anyone is serious about buying it they would go and look at it first or ask for specific photos

The value of something is subjective. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. There is a market out there for very expensive restored bays. As I mentioned earlier someone I worked with spent £28K on a late bay. How much do the new brazilian bays cost when kited out as a camper? £40K upwards! You see them driving around so there is a market out there for them.

It is a shame to see inverted snobbery around bay window ownership.

People don't need to have pulled they're bus from a Desert scrapyard with they're teeth to have earned a right to ownership. It's fine to buy a finished bus. And a professionally built one will cost .... circa £30k. It's 2014 ;)

There will always be extremes and for some in the market specifically looking for a VW that appears to be well sorted and that they can use 'off the shelf' and fits their life style this will not be an obscene amount of money to lay out, especially when compared with a modern Danbury or something commercially available from the likes of GDay Kombies in Oxfordshire that is almost built to order. And if they only use it for one or two seasons before the next 'must have accessory' comes along they probably won't be too bothered about selling it for less than they paid for it. It won't impact on the general market place as that will always find a level

Not sure that ebay would be the place I would choose to sell a bus at this ticket price, but then again traditional Car Auction Houses even the prestige ones do not seem to be getting particularly high prices even for very well presented VW motors at the moment.

But ownership is different for all of us, I've grown up on this forum admiring all sorts of different buses, picking three different examples, I've always loved Clems very early westy and how he uses it in the UK and in Europe, for different reasons love following the adventures Sparkywig has with his sunroof/delux/etc etc bus and how it constantly changes as his needs change and different parts of the long term plan drop into place and Mr Brightside's is a terrific example of building a bus to the spec you want it to be and then using it any month of the year. God know what these examples would fetch in the open market, but without doubt it will still boil down to what someone is prepared to pay and how fast any current owner needs to sell at that particular moment in time. There will always be bargains and there will always be something sold at a price that draws a gasp. At the moment there is a 'fully restored' 1979 latebay on ebay in Newcastle with a ticket price of £35,995

I don't want to sell my westy, but one day soon I may have to sell just hope the market forces are 'nice' to me if that day comes

After 5 years my son and I gave up on trying to restore ours - we didn't have the time, skills or facilities.

So rather than break it for parts we got it professionally restored, which cost several times what we originally thought it would.

But now we've got it back we know we made the right decision - it's 'worth', whatever that means, a lot less than it cost us but we don't plan on selling it so it's almost irrelevant.

It's all a matter of personal choice - I'd never spend anything like that sort of money, or a lot more, on a 'Split' but if someone has the money and wants to do it it's their choice.

Think i would rather see a friend spend £30k on a properly sorted and restored bus than £30k on a new Brazilian one that will lose heaps as it ages imho

Just seen this reply as I mostly read this forum through Tapatalk.

At what point did I mention that they lived in this mansion? It was more the aspirational aspect of the photo I was refering to

Again, who cares if he does or doesn't know what "members" are looking for? I was merely commenting on the fact that if they didn't even restore the door to work properly then what else is not up to standard? Are the sills straight, are they full of plop? You are right that it should be inspected but what pisses me off is the chancers expecting this much cash for a sub standard bus.

Yes, buy a restored bus from OneonOne or similar and you know it will be a hand built thing of beauty well worth the money, but a shiny poorly finished bus advertised at this money is not worth it, and will leave someone out of pocket at some point as they couldn't see through the Kath Kidson interior "upgrades" and a wanky sat nav.

You did set off on a bit of a rant Matty, I can see how people got the impression they did from your post :0

Well I knew some good buses were sold over the last few years for 20k plus but I have to admit I had not realised that top ones were now reaching 30k or a bit more.

It's making me wonder if I should maybe consider selling mine since in all honesty I am less comfortable using it than I used to be when it was not worth much.

A rant ?

Quite possibly, but as someone who has helped people put right there campers after buying a bodged up lemon it just irritates me greatly seeing something advertised cynically to attract the people who aspire to a camper and are attracted to the shiny paint, soft furnishings and swanky settings in the pictures (that are shot from a distance) rather than the structural integrity of the vehicle.
I know not everyone is the same but I for one don't want to see the "this is where you can park if you buy this camper" pictures, I want the inner arches, under the nose/pedal area, out riggers, jacking points, engine bay and even the correct spot welded sill dimples for 30k.

Matt :D

Surely the fact they say only 12 photos is allowed why wouldn't you put up such 'sales' pictures? they also say ask for more they have hundreds, they even ask you round to view it...Sorry, urge you to view it.

If you buy something for that sort of money without a good through inspection then maybe you deserved to get burnt?

Ultimately they more than likely won't sell it for that price and they either will take it off sale or reduce the price to what the majority here find the market value. Good luck to them for selling it that if it is as solid and professionally restored like they say it is.

Perhaps, but surely 12 well chosen photos would give a very fair view of the bus and if then you wanted to investigate further you would then go and view?
Anyway I digress, my main and initial point was that that this bus is not a 30k bus, someone will get burnt and that is what pisses me off.

I totally agree with you Matt
But I expect a "Specialist" will now try and beat me to death with my own sunvisors for saying that

"Looks" like a nice Bus, if you do some "*** packet" calculations... :msn4:

It's had a £20k spend on her and 1200 hrs at say £35ph, that's £62k plus the original cost of the Bus.
