Got to the stage with my resto where I've basically no money to finish it and the weather has caught up with to even finish painting panels, seriously thinking of selling as a project ,it's starting to put pressure on the marriage to so if you have time take a look at my resto thread and see what you think and if you wouldn't mind some idea of what I should sell it for if I let it go, there's a fair few new parts to go with it ,new servo, complete delux seal kit ,westy windows plus seal kits ,very low mileage 1641 engine. Would be gratefully for some feedback.

Can you not just leave it sit until it all cools down, see where your are and feel in a year? it looks like a lot of effort has gone in shame to let that go.

Ill second that ^^^ it would be a real shame to get rid with the work you've put in, and as a project the price you'd get wouldn't help :(

To be fair I've had enough ,I bit off more than I can chew if I am honest ,really wasn't a good idea without a garage and the cost has just got silly ,I never even took notice till the good lady told me I've pretty much been spending £400 + a month on paint parts ect, if I could just lock it away I would but she's worried the scrap guys are gunna lift as they patrol everyday :( and I haven't even got an interior yet ,just don't know where to go, it's been going on for two + years now. I don't know anyone where we live so pretty much done everything myself with the help of advice from you guys on here.

I'll third that! It sounds more like you have hit the wall.. a bit like runners do, you just have to work through it. Just tuck it away somewhere and see in the spring how you feel. If you don't, in years to come you'll be kicking yourself, trust me I've been in similar situations with various cars and now regret selling them as they would be worth a fortune now and so collectable.. a bit like your bus!

Some thoughts:

There must be a local air-cooled club? It would well be worth trying to seek them out and see who is around. I know in our local club here are opportunities to store vans over the winter arranged by one of the club members. In which case, it might be well worth doing that and see how you feel in spring. You will have little to lose - I suspect more people would take on a project in spring than in autumn if you decide enough is enough.

I tend to agree that leaving it for a while might help you get perspective - especially if it is out of the way.

Another thought on the domestic front might be to hire a camper for a weekend to see what the experience is like. That could go either way if course, but it might give some more impetus to get the thing finished come spring?

Whatever you decide, all the best....

It would be a proper Shame if you give up now bud, "we've" come so far!! :D

Saying that tho, No shame in admitting your not in a position to do a resto right now tho!!
Not many people are!! :(
I've given up on a 65 splitty n sold it on & a 72 beetle, just didn't have the time with a business & a wife & a house an all!!!
I just moved them on at a loss & put the money towards stuff that was better for me at The Time!!!
There's plenty opportunity to get another bus later !??!!?

Joining A local club is a fantastic idea mind!!!
I wouldn't have got my splitty finished or be half as far on with my bay if it wasn't for members of my local club helping me out & likewise, I've helped them out with advice & cheap resprays!!!
""""IF""" you can blag some free winter storage off of a friend or family, putting the bus away until you've got more time/ enthusiasm/ money is also an option!!!

Best of luck whichever you decide, most of us have been where you are now & come out the other side!!!
No wiser, a bit older, a lot poorer but hopefully with a bus the whole family can enjoy!! 8)
Good luck!!!

Cheers Lee.

Hi Dub Boy

I have read your resto thread and erm well i don't know quite what to say,i was expecting to see a bus with the bottom hanging out but you have come so far.

Not worth risking your marriage for it but the best things in life are not normally easy.

good luck with whatever you decide

You've done some really nice work so far. I suppose it means you could do it again on another van at some point. You can either store it for a while, under cover, until you can come back to it, or if that's not on the cards then you have no choice but to sell it as a project as you can't really store it on your drive for months and months.
I suppose it depends on how attached you and your missus are to the van as you've had it a fair while. These DIY restos take a lot of time i.e. like a few years, and I suppose you and everyone else needs to be on board.
Best of luck! :)
