Hi just joined the forum, picked this 72 bay up today getting it ready for the summer
Have lots of questions hopefully the forum can answer them

First thing I did when I got it home was remove the sun visor and spare wheel off the front.
Got lucky with the spare wheel mount as it left no marks on the paint just 2 screw holes in the front panel and 4 in the bumper ,hopefully these will be hidden by the number plate.

The sun visor thing has left some damage on the roof and the gutters these will need some attention as the rust has started to take hold

All in pretty happy with it so far not sure I like the wheels tho anyone want to do a swap ?

Cheers
Si

Good to see another Dormobile around.

Not sure if the number plate would look so good up there in the middle of the panel - but, your bus, your rules !

I'm new to all this how do you know it's a dormobile ?

The pop up roof is a Dormobile roof, if you look at pictures of other buses on here you'll see all different types of roofs.

You should also have a riveted plaque by passenger door also saying Dormobile.

(of course your bus could be something else with Dormo roof put on later...

Most of the other conversions don't have roof windows or 2 bunks up top, and for sure no other conversions have a cooker "in" the passenger seat...!

Nice looking van. Defo a Dormobile roof. As to the number plate your van your rules but I've never seen a number plate that high up. Why not get a 10" VW badge.

I think he means the 4 holes in the bumper will be hidden, at least I hope that's what he means. :)

I'm not putting the plate over the screw holes on the front panel I was on about covering the holes in the front bumper with the plate. Have ordered a new badge although not sure how I'm going to fix it because the 4 original holes are missing ?

This lol

Dude love your wheels what spec are they ?

Cheers

356 replicas.

Been working on the van this weekend. Changed the wheels for some gas burners, fitted black plates and got the front badge on. He's looking loads better now.

Made some good progress on the bus over the last few weeks.
Had the guys at fellows speed shop fit a T2d 4" beam and some adjustable IRS spring plates.
Ozzy is sitting much better now. It's Currently about as low as it can go with out doing notches for the steering arms and drive shafts.
One thing that I'm not that happy with is the offset of the front wheels they stick out quite far so I'm not really getting the most out of my narrowed beam. A wheel swap may be on the cards.

wheel change number 3 !!

no more rubbing on the front !

ps its sitting high because i removed all the interior

Having finished the interior and had some more new stuff fitted shocks etc, it was time for our first trip to the coast. Destination Croyed, Devon 190 miles.

was all going so well, living the air-cooled dream

Got 14 miles away from the campsite and the big guy gave up. The top end tappet noise that started around Cheltenham that I thought was exhaust gasket didn't get any quieter after trying to cure it with more miles lol.

We made it all the way down the devon link road and the last hill before you hit Barnstable finished us off, lucky a police car came past and the guys helped me push it down the road into the next lay buy . This is where things got interesting as the AA man kindly informed us that we downgraded our cover from relay to roadside 6 months ago .....oh balls forgot about that. This left us with one tow and 15 miles in the bag. After much deliberation I decided the best place to put the bus was out side Barnstable VW dealership.

dumped

My mate managed to get us a last minuet room at the Thatch . big thanks to them as they just threw him the keys to the room and said sort it in the morning, buy this time it was 1.00am. Me and my mate got up early and went down to the VW dealership to explain the scrap left on the front of the nice forecourt. They were so cool and agreed to let me keep it locked up out the back safe till the Monday while we sorted out a plan. Thanks chaps :)

Its new home for the next few days.

not good :(

So after a few chilled out days on the beach, staying at friends house I came up with the following options
Pay to upgrade the AA cover to relay £80 and pay £2.50 per mile to get it home (do the maths :( .)
Find a local tow company £350 ish
Get lift home with mates borrow trailer come down and tow van back.
Leave van in Devon get it fixed come back down in mrs car then drive home.

After talking with Graham at MEB I decided to go with the leaving it in devon plan . Graham put me in touch with Bob at Resto Haus in Braunton, Really nice guy came and picked up the van and towed it back to his unit.

So thats the story so far, the engine is coming out next week to check it all good for the exchange then will be fitting a recon unit.
Bobs going to put a few hundred miles on it for me then I will drive it home ..slowly eek

Sorry to learn about your 'breakdown'. stop when the noise is unusual or bad is always the advice but somehow when you're on the road it doesn't seem so easy - and it will go a few more miles, right?

good looking camper, post up some pictures of interior when you get it back http://forum.earlybay.com/posting.php?mode=reply&f=2&t=69414#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
