Evening guys,

I've been searching online and locally for a spray paint supplier to locate some cans that match my van, the factory code on the chassis is L50K Neptune Blue, I've tried a few local suppliers and they haven't been too helpful (one even told me L50K was white) I've heard that my van may have been hand painted back in the 90's so hopefully this is still the colour I'm looking for.

I found a company on Ebay that supply a can for around £18, not sure if this is cheap/expensive?

I need a few cans so I can sort the rust patches out so they don't get worse before I finally get the money together for a full resto?

Can anybody advise me of a good trusted supplier?

Thanks in advance,

Simmo

How do they match it? With a machine to identify the colour. My paint supplier does it by eye and he just can't get it right. He says some suppliers have a machine to check the colour but he won't shell out the £5k on it.

Cheers

Sorry I'm in Essex.

I had this prob with my lk50 Neptune blue just couldn't get a match.
Had some rattle cans made up from a local company who has a good rep but just couldn't get a match.
In the end I contacted the guy who rue sprayed my bus and he sent me a left over tin he had. This don't help u tho :(
You could contact the company who supplied the paint in that tin in the pic but this Neptune blue seems hard to match the next mix may not b an exact match for your bus

I think he matched by eye, he's spot on though at Wolverhampton shop.
maybe my colour is easier to match! L87 pearl white.

Again, this probably doesn't help either, but I used Morleys in Derby.

I thought I had L87 until I got home and sprayed it on - its obviously been resprayed at some point. I took the fuel filler cap and they matched it using a machine. Apparently white, and shades of, is very difficult to do, but they were pretty much bang on.

What are these machines cos when I was looking I was havin real problems I eventually went into halfords ,they couldn't match it n they said there is only a couple of company's in uk that have matching machines for paint???
Mind u I don't always believe what I'm told !

my local dulux had a five grand scanner for matching colours and they stopped using after a couple of months, the lad in there was a lot better doing it by eye.

Hi there,
I used
http://www.autopaintsbrighton.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
for spray cans from an old vw code (Niagra blue - my local spares shop did not have it listed) and they are £11 each...very prompt service too! Well pleased!
:D

I'm guessing, like most things, that there are individuals who are better than machines, but the machines give you consistency

God knows what the machine was, it looked like a scanner to me - whatever it was, it worked. For what it's worth, the people i used sell paint and spraying equipment. That's it, they're not a motor factors or anything, so I guess they're able to invest in their core business.

Only my experience, don't know how reflective of the industry it is

My local paint shop has the scanner machine , they call it the brick!!
Every time they've used it for me the lad ends up tinting it too

Thanks for this, the van was painted by a 'Friend' of my wifes grandad back in the 90's so no chance of that, I'll keep looking I guess.

Love the colour of your bus though, mine looks like a dirty lifeless version, maybe a good polish would help!!

There's a pic ov her in the full
I was lucky it had a full respray but I also like the old paint on some busses.
I hope u have some luck cos I was havin real problems n it was doing my nut in until a mate of sparky wigs on here who owns a garage down south sugested I contact the chap who resprayed it don't know why I didn't think I've that!
All the best let us know how u get on and I wish I could help a fellow n / b bus owner more ;)

Cheers,

I've got a spray can of Neptune Blue on order which was £17 delivered, hopefully it will be close enough so I can deal with the rust patches and front part until I find enough money for a full respray, one day!!!!!!

Did the same guy lower the front of your bus for you?

The cans I had made up were ok ish
Some would be happy but I'm really fussy so wanted a perfect match
Yours may be fine and you'll b happy till u can get round to a full resprayed
Don't forget we all like pics so look forward to seeing
How u get on
