Ok... how many different petrol tanks are there for bay windows... is it simply early and late bay tanks or are there more variety?

Where can i get new one from if worst comes to worst??

Someone correct me if im wrong but i belive there are 2 types for a bay. Early & late, changover year was 72, some got early, some got the later ones. I have sopken to a lot of suppliers and from what they tell me the early ones are not avalable new :( (don't know about the later ones), so i guess your best bet is to get one from a brakers that imports from a sunny climate.

Just read my 69 Crew Cab manual and it has a 15.9 US Gallon capacity. I also have an old 75 manual that states fuel tank capacity was 14.8 US Gallons. Have always been curious why the engine displacement went up and the tank capacity went down...fuel injection perhaps?

is there a specialist refurbisher or refurbishing method to fix petrol tanks then?

The US cowboy who sold me the tank had told me he's steamcleaned inside... when I presume now all he did was wash it out with water (if at all) and it looks like the plonker may have filled the tank up with paint for some reason!

First ride as tank became emptier just led to breakdown... fuel starvation.. newly painted gunge in in-line fuel filter. After while started again... then 2 miles stop.. on and offf doing this getting worse.... more cr*p in filter.. eventually leading to it blocking big time...

sooooooo......... what to do now?

Is tank going to always be creating this problem - how can cr*p be removed, how will I know cr*p been removed and how can tank insides be sealed ... how will I know if tank is rusted on inside? No holes / leakages if that's any consolation!

Will all this gunge have damaged fuel pump or anything else on way to in-line fuel filter... fortunately that stopped gunge going into carb (I hope)...

thanks!

there is a kit you can buy for cleaning tanks out, where from i dont know but i saw a thread or website where someone did it.

alternativley if you have a spare bit of cash lying around, these guys do replacement tanks http://www.fairbankandcraven.co.uk/type2tank.shtml

they only do split ones, i tried to get a batch of early and late bay ones done but they werent interested.
you could fit a split tank in a bay but the size is smaller, less fuel = more fuel stops
