i think ther is a video on you tube showing how to do it with a grinder.

if not i got my press off ebay, only 10t but does the trick and was only £70

10t ? surely not enough or am I missing something - the one I did manage to get out on a press took a 20 t jobby and some heat persuasion......there are 2 now on utube

a grinder and weld and run under cold water [ not good for the meturllagy apparently ]

and some chap using the c clamp method.....

ok links then

this is the clamp method series

Hi there !...Is it a top or bottom ball joint ?... I found the whole thing a bit of a learning curve, even had to make a tool/drift to hammer off the clip holding the anti-roll bar which really didn't wanna shift at all ! ... I ended up removing the cap end that is put on when it's made ( the bit of the ball joint visible from the top when fitted on the vehicle) ...once this was off i could drive out the threaded ball and bottom cup, which just left the top cup which i ended up oxy/acetylene cutting out ( very carefully !!!)...I had to make a tool to drive in the ball joint, but it worked ok..still got it if you need it??.. ..this was for a bottom ball joint ... Cool Air do a swap scheme where you post them your old ball joint still in the arm and they can press out your old joint and press a new one in and send it back to you...If you ring them they can let you know how much ?... I also need to give a big shout for the guys at the 'VOLKS STATION' in Chester, who urged me on with cries of 'you can give it some stick'...and things like that :)

even when had a press still quicker to grind of crimped over blanking plate (after removing arm from bus !) drive out ball pin then fit hacksaw blade through hole carefully cut slot in remaining part of joint.I usually do two cuts and drive out section with punch ,you can use this to make shure not cut to deep.then drive out remains of joint.then press in new joint making sure lined up correctly.have done them in large vice 8)

my query is other than buying the c-clamp type tool on ebay for around 60 notes - what do people use or buy to use as an insertion tube? I know it needs to be fairly hefty walled and ID of 56-57mm - no notches are required to insert........
