Bit of background
-Owned this van for several years but life etc gets in the way. Hoping to move on with the project as I have all the parts on hand. Plans will develop as I get further on with it. But I want it to be low, look stockish from the outside, but have modern running gear, it will be watercooled run a Tdi lump on a flipped passat box 5 or 6 speed. Porsche brakes all round with 924S rear trailing arms.
Originally Lotus white with red interior, this will be returning.
Following few posts will be taken from a build thread on a previous forum that's now defunct.
Initially saw van it advertised on ebay few years back in Newquay, described as relatively solid, like them all apparently so we will see. Brought it off the blokes description and a load of photos he seemed genuine. It had no running gear and wa basically a shell. So I borrowed the pickup from where I used to work and went to collect it with my mate ugly Phil.
So this is how she used to look
I got to her in this condition
Note the bodged rear corners, battery trays also butchered and replaced with flat steel, apparently it ran a 2 litre type 4 lump with MR2 exhaust and they tailpipes exited through these holes. hmmm
on the truck
journey home
Home but stuck on the back of a truck
with a little help from my mates
so for the past few years it mainly been an expensive shed :shake: but now the work will commence, I will be demolishing the garage around it and enlarging it as I cannot currently jack the car up as van roof is a couple of inches from the garage roof and the van is sitting on 4 small wheels.
Van mounted to a CJ autos rotisserie
Sills all gone, tophats all gone, jacking points gone etc etc :sniff:
Chassis also requires work
Fast forward
New autocraft top hats fitted, very impressed!
inner sill fitted
I now have the sill strengthener fitted and the jacking points are all ready to fit just getting my spot welders tips dressed at work.
Where possible im using autocraft replacement panels as im so impressed with quality and fit.
Brought this to sort out bodged rear end.
Trial fitment
Now all welded in place, got some panel beating to do but getting there.
Nearside sliding door sill repaired and inner sill replaced with an autokraft part, nice quality and good fit!
Nice mess in this shot, plates over plates. Got a wheel arch cut on way for this side as the fit of the aftermarket wheel arches is rubbish
some shots of bodged rear end
Just working on rear corner the otherside, slowly chipping away at it. Sorry about photos we have mislaid the camper and Im using my iphone.:shake:
