hi new on here so go easy on me..having read all manner of posts about lowering set ups, wheels etc ive come to this arrangement
3.5 dropped spindles
3" narrowed beam with adjusters
rear adjustable spring plates
165/70-14 front and 185-14 rear
will be used for going to shows with the mrs and 2 kids plus odd trip to the coast..will this set up be ok?
at the moment I have completely rotton standard beam, drums and stock 14" steels. looking to put late bay disc's up front
regards

Sounds a good start :)

Allow for new dampers though.

If you are doing all that work on the front end it might be worth considering a red 9 beam. You wont get the narrowness but you'll get lowered, discs, good ride etc and a steering rack as a bonus!

Worth looking into it as beam (£500), shocks (£200), spindles (£450), discs + calipers (£800?, CSP setup) and you are at roughly the cost of the red9 kit. If your steering box is in good nick you could recoup some cash by selling that.

ok well least im not far off..can you have dropped spindles and keep the drum brakes? I agree a red9 would be nice but planning to buy bits as I can afford them...any easy way to tell what condition the steering box is in when its on the workshop floor and not on the vehicle?

Yup transporterhaus have drum brakes spindles. Steering box is tricky as its not under load until its on the bus

If you go Red 9 you won't be able to go very low due to the construction of the dog leg on the wheel arch.

Might be worth looking at a few King & link pin busses.

Tbh its all a bit confusing till I get some understanding on all the different ways and parts involved...having recently brought an abandoned project which is a mass of random parts and bare metal shell I can see this site being a god send..will post some pics at some point

hi again...my thoughts are to go with standard beam, dropped spindles, lower shocks and still keep my wide 5 steels but with lower profie tyres?? or do I need to go to 15" rims due to lowering?? will there be any benefit using a narrowed beam??

Sounds like a good plan. Look at the Gaz shocks thread on here for what works well with the dropped spindles. 14" wheels with a slightly lower profile will be fine. A narrowed beam would tuck the wheels in a bit so there is more room for travel so you could run lower or have a higher profile tyre. I run 3.5" drop spindles, 14" steels with 175/70/14C tyres and the Gaz shocks. Runs well although I may go for a slightly smaller tyre next time

cheers..is your profile pic running what you have just described? do you think it would be worth getting a narrowed beam while im at it as my stock beam is rotton
