Hi,

I am in the process of trying to raise the front end of my bus.

Its currently got 2 adjusters on the front, 1 on the top tube and 1 on the bottom. I have undone both nuts but left the allen key part within the thread done up.

I have undone the top part of the shock absorber however the adjusters will not move whatsoever. Even with 2 scaffold tubes each side and 2 big guys levering them it still won't budge.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to free them??

Your help will be appreciated :D

Did you actually have any suspension before? Sounds like it was all in the tyres!

Like I said, I'd remove the arms and give them a good greasing and then move the leaves and try it that way.

You are probably right.......it was all in the tyres

Im not very good at this sort of thing so please be patient. If I take the torsion arms off, how do I get the leaves out to move them???

More things to change on my van then - Bugger !!

Im putting some dropped spindles on but as the front is set at its lowest on the adjusters, the tyres are touching the wheel arches

I cant currently drive it and as I've hired Lisa's car to someone im a little stuck for transport :?

No, leave the leaves where they are, they should be locked by the grub screws, but you should be able to rotate them (use a rag - they'll be oily). If they rotate freely it rules out the adjusters being seized so it must be in the bearings/bushes at the arms.

As I said before, it could be that they are urethane bushes (they'll probably be bright red) - I've had them lock solid before on cars because they've not been properly lubricated when they were initially fitted.

If you get really stuck I'll pop over Sunday morning and have a look.

third that

before a strip down, you could warm up the tubes around the adjusters (not red hot but just enough) then try leavering it again, it may be that the thingy ma bobbin in the middle is very tight on the tube and stopping you moving it round.
make sure you regrease fully after :)
