Looking at rear seat belts for a full width bench seat, I can see fitting the 2 outside 3 point belts ok but if you wanted a 3rd in the middle would it be a lap belt only and where would you drill to fix it ?

yeah, you would put a lap belt in the middle and if you look under the seat the mount holes should already be there. So there are one on each side / wheelarch for the retractor parts and then in the middle of the bus you'll see 4 more holes, one each for the other parts of the 3 point seatbelts then another 2 for the lapbelt.

I'm sure that somone can explain that better than me but all will become clear if you take a gander :)

Without going rediculous crazy I think the answer is to keep it simple as a lap belt. Should be easy enough to just bolt to the same point as the restrainer straps of the other belts.

Does this look about right ? its not my bay only its one i'm looking at.

Should those brackets be drilled through the wheel arch like that ?

That's exactly how mine looks under the seat. And yes, mine are bolted through the rear tubs too.

A panel would not come with seat belt mounts for obvious reasons. Retro fitting seat belt mounts is definitly not just pop a bolt in here or there, spreader plates will be a minimum or have some genuine ones fitted to your van from another scrappped vehicle. If in doubt just let a professional do it,, you don`t want to extreme test them to find they fail,, now do ya

Yours are bolted through the arch ?

Yep, arch, middle ( as in pic) and up behind the seat back for the 3 point belts.
my westy r'n'r bed bracket is bolted same as the pic to the arch.
The belt mount on the arch is right near that bed bracket, behind the ply upright bit.

Since having our first baby 3 weeks ago :D , i'm in the process of fitting a rear belt for the car seat. I need a replacement rear arch mounting bolt panel, as when restored was replaces with plane metal. I know JK do a repair panel, does anyone else know of any other companies that do them? Its a devon Moonraker so has a wooded 3/4 bed, so having to make some adjustments for the belt. Cheers Andrew!

Are these stock seatbelt anchor points? Looks like they are going through the firewall.

I asked a VW welder and he said that all is needed is drill holes in the right places and place a large washer on the other side after I asked him to strengthen and weld a nut in the right places. Also sadly panels don't have any third point placements, how are they created on stock t2s? Wasn't too happy so wanted to see how stock ones looked.

I had these welded in to my rear arches.

The picture shows the stock mounting bolt places on the firewall .

I keep looking at the photo.....is it upside down ?

I thought that until I spotted the heater tubes on the floor. As it`s a panel van they are still in one place and not relieved to accept the rear heater ducts under the back seat.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, I got one too

Mate,

Think your only option for the middle is a lap belt, luckily I only needed 2 belts in the rear of my panel van, I managed to find some longer belts from a scrap dealer for £15 each (Think they came from a Renault people carrier)

I got a welder to stick some plates in to strengthen the Jack points, not sure I'd trust washers only.

Maybe not perfect but does a job and kept the wife happy!!!

Thanks for the photos Simmo,

That's what I was thinking of not just placing large washers an the back side of the firewall...
Are the uprights your welded to the sides strong enough with a forward motion torque?
Did you get these MOT'd?
Looks good man.

cheers

Andy
