Hi I just changed a filter king fuel regulator which leaked fuel constantly from its seal.... I changed it to a bosch metal fuel filter, designed for cars with carbs etc..

It already has two inline fuel filters from the tank before it gets to the new filter, I just wanted to check peoples thoughts on whether regulators are better or filters?

I remember a few months ago I asked if any one knew where I could get a replacement fuel regulator from and the general thoughts were to scrap the regulator and go for metal filter!

Is there a better fuel return from one option to another?

Many thanks and festive cheer!!

These do two completely different jobs.

1. fuel regulator regulates fuel pressure.
2. filter does exactly what it says.

Not sure what you want to know.

If you running an electric pump then a regulator and a filter are a good idea.

If your running a stock set up pump, then one filter before the pump is enough, and more than one filter in line and you will probably cause problems pulling fuel through.

Hiya All,

I read with some interest noddy's point that more than one in-line fuel filter could cause problems in drawing fuel.

Interesting because of a couple of conditions............ If you have an in-line fuel filter and a mechanical fuel pump you are actually putting your fuel through three filtering devices. The gas tank has a sock-like screen mesh filter at the outlet. This filter screen should be changed out on a reguar basis and crud cleaned out of the bottom of the tank. Of course, the in-line filter will do its job as long as it is clean. This too should be changed out regularly or you will definitely experience the problems in drawing fuel that noddy alluded to. Finally, there is also a mesh screen in the fuel pump through which the fuel must pass. This also acts as a filtering device

I just wanted some advice as the fuel return was never that great. It's a 2ltr, twin carb set up. It has an electric fuel filter, I just wanted to see if people think its better to have the metal filter in place of the filter king regulator???

Is there going to be a noticeable difference by not having the fuel regulated now? I double checked and it has one inline filter near the petrol tank then the new metal filter, so just 2 not the 3 as earlier posted!

The petrol goes through the electric pump then straight into the metal fuel filter!

Thanks for you replies :)

What pressure does your fuel pump provide? if it is too high for your carbs (which it probably is) then you need to regulate it otherwise the carbs are likely to leak - a fuel filter wont do that it will just attempt to remove any debris from the fuel.

What make/model of fuel pump is it? that may help identify what pressure it is putting out.

No idea what pressure the pump is supplying?? Ill keep an eye on the carbs etc and maybe after the festivities return it to a fuel regulator!! maybe santa will bring be a new one??
