I think I've tried just about everything - 10ft breaker bar, WD, Hot water, hammer and chisel, flattened tyres - and still the bad boys ain't budgin. Apart from heating them with a blow torch I don't know what else to do and I'm desperate to get to the hubs off to check out the handbrake connections and brake cylinders etc. Any help gratefully received!

just had a game with one of mine but eventually came off with a 6 ft bit of pipe on a 3/4 breaker bar. If you have tried all you say, heating is the next thing. If that doesn't work the last resort is to cut it with a hacksaw, (doesn't take that long honest) as soon as you are down to the driveshaft threads drive a screwdriver in to break the nut open and then can be unscrewed. Really surprised the 10 ft breaker has not worked though !

damn they must be solid matem i got mine off with an inch drive impact socket on a 600mm breaker bar, i jumped up and down on mine for about a minute each side and off they came, maybe try it with an inch drive socket? for a bit more purchase on it? or used a mains or air powered impact gun. they've got to give up and come off some time!!

I have just broken a 3/4 drive trying to get mine off! One came away no worries but one was solid........I would recommend impact windy gun if you have access to one.

When working on my mates barndoor once we couldn't get the nut undone, place the socket on the nut so the bar was facing in the air and then pulled away in the bus so the bar smacked into the ground and undid it :D On closer inspection we found the threads were crossed and it must have been wound up with a 3/4 or 1 inch drive impact gun

 Not to be recommended. I once saw this done. The socket and bar sprang off the van, shot about 50 feet into the air and disappeared into some thick bushes  . We never found it despite looking for about an hour.

See if you can hire a Torquemeister wrench - they can shift almost anything.

Got a torque-muitiplier at work, it's great! Can under a HGV wheel nut with a 3/8 ratchet :D But we didn't have 1 to hand so desperate times call for desperate measures  Made a big dent in the tarmac too

After all the years of taking them off, or should i say trying to take them off. The easiest way i have found is to cut them off and put new ones on! they dont cost much and saves you hours farting around with huge bars and the like

Thanks for the responses, Heat no good either so the cutting has commenced. They're coming off in bits I think Im pleased to say

Its the easiest way really dooder if they are stuck, new nuts n pins is always nice going back on as it gives you half a chance the next time they have to come off ;)

Finally cracked 'em this morning, always the way it seems in struggling for ages with one and the other took ten minutes. Here's how I did it anyway, thanks to Easy for his advice on cutting them off.

Above is the nut cut through to the hub with the hacksaw. I cut it vertically which made it easier, cutting as close to the thread as possible.

The section removed after a good smack with the chisel.

When right through to the hub, a good clout with the cold chisel snapped the remaining metal. It just turned off quite easily after this.
