Removing wheels

Hi all, does anyone else have issues with removing there rear wheels once lowered? I believe my 1970 on standard steel wheels has been turned a spline at the rear?! I'm in mid restoration of the full chassis at the min, and when putting on rollover jig an taking the wheels off I have issues with the rear wheels getting caught between the hub an arch?? Have to yank the wheel out really. Can't imagine this to be a nice experiance on the hard shoulder if the need arises lol. Anyone else have issues?? Cheers

Pretty standard with lowered buses im afraid - mine isnt slammed and its an issue getting the rears off.

I have in the past been known to disconnect the rear shocks to get the wheel to drop down enough to remove it

If your only down a spline you can get away with it by using adjustable rear plates

One spline shouldn't stop you getting the rear wheels off, what size tyres are you running?

Dropped the lower damper mount off only works if you are on adjustable spring plates.

Hi tyre size is 185/60/14, I'm sure it's only 1 spline?? Lol was already lowered when I bought it, dunno how his lowered the front as not investigated that yet! But the era wheel are a pain to get off between arch an drum!?

Please dont run those tyres for long on your bus as they are too small a rolling radius for the rear of a bus, stock tyres are the equivalent of 185/80/14 so those are 12% smaller which means your engine is working harder to achieve the same speed.

You must be more than one spline down, do you have any pictures as it was on its wheels. Have you tried letting the air out of the tyres and lifting the base of the wheel outwards so you can pull the tyre through the arch and top of the drum, I had to do that when I had horseshoe plates on but they give you a 3" drop.

I agree with those who posted ... there shouldn't be an issue with removing those wheels/tires if you're only one spline down in the rear. I'm running 205/70R14 on stock steelies and have no problem taking the wheels off being one spline down. Pics would really help to understand and help out with your situ.

I'm thinking wrong tyres are just 1 of many problems I'm slowly uncovering from PO lol.

Looks like 2 splines to me.
Running 60/14s I would have thought you would be (almost) able to see the top of the tyre with just one spline when its hanging..

I agree with Rich on the 2 splines ... or maybe a spline and horseshoe plates? Did you try removing the wheel as Graham explained? If that doesn't work then maybe you'll have to unbolt the bottom of your shock so the wheel will lower enough ... what a pain!
