OMG it price of VW parts are going up fast then the cost of fuel

Like someones mentioned traders seem to list things high on ebay and they dont seem to sell. Im always very suspicious of this kind of activity as it can seem like people are trying to set the market price.
I mean i could list some bumper trim for £450 and it dosent sell, but then when someone contacts me asking for some i could be abit dodgy and say ive had a couple of pairs at that price and was contacted privately and sold one set at that price so the pricing must be right and thats what i want for my next set. Its called setting market price and people in it for the hobby dont tend to do this but certain traders and scene tax people do.

I heard a terrible story about someone selling NOS and VGC sliding doors for £500 or £600. When the certain someone went to collect said door the first thing they saw was a ropey door and he said i hope thats not the door your trying to sell me. The seller replied by saying since they had spoke all the £500 and £600 doors had sold and they only had a pefrect condition second hand one for £800 left.
The buyer apparently only took the door because he was working on a open cheque from the insurance company on a one owner from new bus. Like i said it didnt happen to me but it did happen. I nearly choked on my drink when the story was told to me in the pub.

Personally i list my bits at a price which i think they are worth or a little bit more than what i bought them for and if i dont sell them i know im asking too much and lower the price. Then again im not greedy.

Open cheque book or not i would of walked away.
I sell things at a price i would like to pay for it but to be honest most of the time i just try and get my money back.
Have given up selling on ebay

I think Ebay is a load of Wa&*k.

Sold some stuff on their years ago and nothing since as just dealt with messer -needed to sel the parts and wasn't bothered about what I get for them but just wish I'd binned the lot (which wouldn't have been the first time  )

I guess it is forums if you need the spares but parts seem to have rocketed recently

Still surprised at the prices things sell for, whether it forums or ebay, think as things get harder to buy new then the cost 2nd hand goes up. Seats are the best example of this.

But if you keep an eye on the over priced stuff it dosent sell. Its just stuck on ebay totally over priced so the seller can try to inflate the market and set the price.

How many times have you heard people say "I saw one on ebay for such and such" and that then becomes the going rate, even if it didnt sell.
Also this term "rare" is very over used. The majority of parts arent rare as VW produced things in huge numbers. Ive seen hundreds if not thousands of clocks, so hardly rare, but when youve got one you tend to keep it in your bus so hard to find is a better description. Luckily i managed to collect all my "rare" parts before the EarlyBay boom, which the traders have jumped on just like they do with every trend. 10 years ago you couldnt give bay stuff away. The parts havent become rarer just more sought after.

I agree ^^

There are very few parts that are that rare, even og curtains which can be found using the web quite easily. Clocks, bumper trims, tissue boxes, dealer plate frames - they are all out there, its just if you want them enough to pay the price.

There are some ebay shops out there that absolutely take the piss, but someone who's just bought a van and wants the bits probably wont care, they'll just want the bits.

I dont begrudge anyone chancing there arm really, but people need to remember the scene isnt that big, and reputations are won and lost easily.

seriously if you can get that amount for it why not ? if you don`t want to pay it then don`t !!
I don`t see anyone on here selling their 14k bus for 2k because they think its fair and they rather it stay in the scene or offer it on here , no your gonna ask 14k , If someone will pay £800 for a sliding door then people will charge it

The guy didnt pay out of his own pocket for the sliding door as he was the restorer rather than the owner, it was a open cheque from the insurance due to it being a 1 owner from new RHD camper in A1 condition.

I dont think anyone would be that stupid to give stuff away for less than its worth, but in the same breath i do think sellers/traders will scare alot of customers off with silly prices. The only people they can sell to at daft prices are new people into the scene. This is not sustainable in the long term which if these people had abit more business no how and abit less greed they would see this. They are quick to complain when they arent making any money.............hardly suprising if theyve scared away all their future customers.

Anyone want some rare over riders (no dent or dings etc) £300......................... come on rusty dented ones go for between £150 and £200 so they must be worth it.

   I'm not the only one "aving a larf"

All these high price items make it all the sweeter when you bag a bargain! Its all part of the fun.

This store is operated by my wife
vw classics is me
We are both expensive and do not apologise for this
We are expensive because we import parts and busses from what many of you would consider " no go areas" and i don`t mean no go because it smells. Its downright dangerous.Ive been shot at and mugged.
Its an expensive process and as a businessman i do not expect to give things away.
To answer a couple of questions.
The trim took me 5 years to souce a complete set of one year only bumper trim.I got it for my 68 crewcab which i then sold very cheap. That failed to get a mention.I decided to sell it and valued it as i did knowing how long it took to get and the likehood of me being able to replace it.
I did sell a sliding door for £800.It was off my fully painted show bus and i had no more stock.I told the guy that the door he came to see was sold the previous day to a guy on this very forum and that i had no more for sale. He was obviously very dissapointed and kept informing me that money wasn`t an issue and how he needed it now and it had to be mint.
I weighed up the costs of replacing a fully prepped AND painted mint rhd slider and set the price accordingly.I did not deceive him i did not put on my satan outfit and force him to pay up or go to hell and i certainly didn`t get him there just so i could sell him my show bus sliding door and run off into the sunset wheelbarrowing my money to the bank.
I have always said that if you see something on ebay that you`d like then ring me.Don`t contact through ebay contact me here or phone me.Earlybay customers always get a discount but in light of this thread maybe i should reconsider as it certainly hasn`t gained me any friends or more business.
I am deeply distressed by some of these comments from people i considered trusted friends. I do this because i love aircooled vw`s and have done so since i bought my first beetle back in 86.I`ve had an aircooled vw ever since and my obsession became my full time business in 2006. I admit that by it now being my business its hard to keep the soul going as it becomes about profit and loss and not how sweet that ghia looks on a set of polished fuchs.
At the end of the day i want my customers to be happy and if they are`nt for whatever reason i want to hear about it in a discussion or a phone call not on an internet forum.

I'm sorry Scott I didn't mean to upset you with this thread, I was a little pee'd off that I asked if you could split something you had on ebay, that I was desperate for, and got a very curt reply saying 'yes but it will be the same price' I thought that was out of order and vented a bit on here. I also sent you a curt reply on ebay after getting the bits I needed for a fair price.

In my defence I have had an awful lot to deal with over the last few months and its not like me to be like that, this thread seems to have snowballed a bit and I was releived when it had fell down the page but as its come back up again maybe the mods could close it?

I think I should say though that if this business is your livelihood maybe more polite answers to questions would help keep your customers happy and people on your side?

Anyway sorry again for any distress
