my bus has been running crap for a while now.
It's a 2080 type 1 with drla 40's, bosch 009 with pertronix, never given me any grief until...

The idle jets kept blocking ( shit in tank i guess) so fitted a filter king, cleaned rebuilt carbs (except needle valves) the acc pump diaphragms were fine but lots of crap in that area.
Put back on, no change, new plugs, leads are only recently renewed, timings good, swapped rotor arm, oil and fram filter are new. Carbs synched. All electrical connections cleaned up, new coil fitted. No change.
I'm lucky to do 100 miles a year these days. Mainly short trips out, a few miles a time.
It's still running like the idle jets blocked, won't rev clean from idle, won't idle too well for first few mins, pops a lot mainly on deceleration , but still quite drivable albeit down on power.
Checked idles again today, clear... So took it out for 15 min drive and eventually got worse until it stalled, wouldn't rev, felt like I had ran out of fuel.
Ten minutes later, back to normal ( but still crap).
I'm still thinking its a fuel problem, but could it be the pertronix playing up ?
There is another fuel filter under the tank I could renew, and I haven't checked the valve gaps yet. Next on the list..
Any thoughts or similar experiences ?
Cheers
Dave

Sounds like it's running lean. However, carbs come last in the fiddling order. Start with valves, then electrics then fuel - is the experts (not me!) routine

Update
Wish I had of looked in the dellorto book first !
First page in the troubleshooting bit had my answers, wind in the mixture screws until revs drop, if one doesn't you have a blocked idle jet/ circuit. Bingo.
Carb off again, blown out, now back on and purring again 8)
At least all the rest of it had a good check over now :)
Happy days

Did me a favour really because it all got serviced and Er indoors didn't moan about me doing it for once in her life
