i've never seen one of these before, i would assume its a one off?

great idea?! especially after watching that Cops program the other week where the driver of a standard height latebay lost a leg after a Ka driver swerved and hit him head on.

very interesting, do you have any more info on it? :)
When I do my front panel I have a few ideas similar that I want to do and will be welding in something. Scary isn't it, and I'm rather attached to my legs.

saw it on a van advertised on the samba, great idea though for a little extra protection.

looks to be a one off, fixed to the chassis rails at the front through the cab floor and the B pillar possibly?, ill send him an email see if we can get a few more pics.

a little bit more simple than i thought, looks to be bolts to the floor and arch and nothing else. I wonder what sort of protection its would give in a head on collision?

Not to sound like a grumpy old man, but that just looks like more stuf to get your legs trapped behind to me :? Its all attached to the relativley thin metal of the floor and the arch. Id have said it would just push through the arch and rip out of the floor. Unless its a late bay and its attached to the strengthening bar underneath.

I was thinking the same when I saw the pics, if we were really worried about safety then we wouldn't all be driving late 60s/early 70s vehicles.
TBH my first thought was I could just see me getting my foot stuck under it as I got out

That's just going to push through the arches surely? I want to do something similar but put it between the inside and the front panel. I think something like internal bullbars maybe and attached to the ends of the chassis rails so the shock would travel along them. I'm not great at physics, but would rather the impact be taken on the chassis rails and bend the body than my legs being gone.
Just for the record I haven't given lots of thought to this, and won't really until I'm doing the front panel replacement

Think mine had something similar fitted at some point, when i got my bus it had holes in exactly the same places, importer had never before seen a bus with these holes and when i had repairs done to the floor ( couple of pin holes ) had them welded up.
Perhaps an aftermarket fitment available in the states at somepoint??
Do not know what protection if any, it would give.

these sort of things need to be crash tested to see how they intrude in to the cad in the event of an accident , safest way surely has to be stock height and a rust free front end

That looks like a waste of time, if your going to do it then a proper braced cage off structural points is the way to go, It's on my wish list but is way above my budget!
