Thinking of changing my bottom pulley for a scat ali one. have heard horror stories of top pulleys exploding! just wondered if this was an issue with a bottom pulley. Any thoughts?

I had a Ali bottom pulley for a while. Dont know what it was but i was never quite happy. What ever you do make sure its well balanced as some arent and check its the correct size for the job. If its smaller your cooling will suffer.
Cant beat abit of OG.

got a GeneBerg Steel Pulley for sale http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.php?cPath=223&products_id=810" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Think I will get the og pulley powder coated with my tinware and see what it looks like. Am only wanting to change for the bling factor!

Tis true and I know through experience :( I had a chrome Empi top pulley explode at 70mph on the A12 one afternoon :evil: as luck would have it I had the old 1 under the rock 'n' roll bed :D Now I've fitted a Scat spin-true top pulley and has been fine. I would assume the bottom pulleys would be good too.

How much do you want for it? is it new?

I'm running a Scat bottom pulley on my stock 1600sp and its all good.

As for top pulley's, dont go for the Genuine VW ones that Heritage sell. You will have trouble finding one with a hole thats actually in the middle of the pulley. Not good for £40 :shock:

here's a surprise RRC are doing what looks like genuine used top pulleys for £11.25 plus £5 p+p

I did have a scat bottom pulley but found the oil thread was to shallow so got it made deeper ;)

Don't forget to check your end float if you're changing bottom pulleys

just a thought not that it applies to me ,but what does one need to do if they feel there is more end play than there should be

Needs to be reshimmed. I only say this as my engine builder insisted on doing when I changed to a Berg Equaliser pulley. He said different pulleys, especially aftermarket ones, have slightly different tolerances to stock which can create more or less end float.
