Feedback appreciated on what people use to prevent someone having off with their vechicle.

I've previously had Gene Berg locking shifters on my last two, however, not this time round.
Interested to see what others use. Steering locks, pedal locks, wheel clamps etc......

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Fair point, I'm only after the best quick fix at present as I only collect my new van on Sunday.

Biggest threat is someone towing it away. Nice and quietly.

Tracker and Wheel Clamps best bet.

Short term wise, block it in on street or drive with another car. Always leave them in 1st gear too.

As most have said ^^^ above, you can only slow down the opportunist or ` Joy Rider` types with a pedal lock or an ignition immobilisor or even a fuel shut off so the bus runs out of petrol, locking them in gear with a locking shifter or other means, chaining up the steering wheel or a steering wheel lock. Electronic solenoid type door locks are a good one as well as they aren`t expected on one of these.
Where it goes Pete Tong, is when they hook it up on a spectacle or drag it up on to a low loader, with a decent gearing on a winch it don`t matter if it`s in gear or if the steering is on full lock because they aren`t interested in looking after your pride and joy, they just want to drag it away for scrapping or similar .
Various types of trackers are available so you can locate it once it`s been nicked and find it again theoretically ,,, BUT !!!! Any thief that `specialises ` in older vehicles or any car thief worth his salt now days, will have a blocker for these trackers so you can`t use them. It does sound a bit hopeless but all the above are worth doing, and if you can put enough obstacles in the way it may make them look elsewhere. The only 99% guarantee is to make the vehicle untouchable by blocking it in with vehicles etc but remember if you moved them, then so can someone else, and keeping it out of sight in a lock up is possibly the best solution although if you locked it up, then someone else can unlock it.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The harder you make it ,,,,,,,,, the better.

WHS.
+ Make sure you have correct insurance cover with agreed value sorted. That's the main one.

Once it's been nicked and abused - would you want it back if found by Tracker? On a new car, most wouldn't want it back. I presume something like your bus, you would?

This has got me thinking. I can hear you all screaming 'NO Ozziedog' But here is the gist of it. If you had a tilt sensor connected to four smoke bombs with one on each corner under the outside of your bus so that if they pick up the front to drag it off, there would be a huge cloud of smoke so they can't see what they are doing. And!!!!! If they still managed to drag it off, there would be a trail that no blocker could hide.

Ozziedog,,,,,,, just a thought guys.

I have a baby monitor in mine and also connected to the house alarm with one of them wireless thingies and it has its own alarm and I alway keep my fingers crossed

Make it look so shit the no body in their right mind would think it worth anything oh and pile a shit load of things around it in the garage oh yeah and park a vehicle infront too and best not to advertise it about either

On a new car I agree, if someone nicks it and I am forking out on my insurance anyway I definately wouldn't want it back. But replacing my daily driver is nice and straight forward - go to dealer, pick colour and option and as if by magic a short time later there it is all ready for me. Not quite so straight froward with my bus. :)
