shock absorber opinion req'd

Hi Guys,

My rear shocks are buggered and the extra weight of the the new engine has only emphasized this, fitted the new adjustable spring plates today so with the rear now as its staying and the 'shockless' bus on the ground with normal load weight I measured the gap between bolt holes at 420mm.

With my gap of 420mm the creative engineering shock part no' CE500 gives me 100mm of up stroke and 80mm of down stroke. (gas and tune-able)

Just wanted opinion before I 'push the button' please.

If you want the best shocks buddy have a look at these - they are custom made to your requirements and although not the cheapest solution its what I will be installing when my shocks need replacing

Bus is now sat down at Turweston Airfield getting an exhaust fabricated at the minute - getting Mike Hausmaan of Vintage Volkshaus to sort me out.
His welding skills are unsurpassed, after that its a case of running the hydraulic clutch and connecting some wires and the coolant lines and im done.

Ive got the Spax Gas adjustable on the back of mine at the minute buddy and they are decent shocks although not used them in anger with the scooby lump just yet.
The coolair ones look the best built out of the ones you have posted.
I know quite a few peeps running the KYB ones too without any issues with aircooled motors.

No, I don’t think there’s such a thing as Scooby shouldering :shock: I reckon you got a bit of a phobia I just don’t think that many have had to fanny about with their rear shocks as much as they have had to with the front ones for obvious reasons. I’ve left my rears alone just because I’ve got next to zero suspension on the back.

I think I've decided on a pair now, I think its all a 'much of a muchness' thing really, you read so many varied comments regarding shocks/coilovers/ARB's/ spring plates, this brand and that brand. Each situation is different and people have different expectations from products. So I'll 'buy the ticket and take the ride'. Will report back with findings in my build thread.

I was only jibing about the scooby cold shoulder. On the whole the EB community has showed positive interest in the conversion, that said there is always a bit banter, and I like that :lol:

Yeah, me too. It might be interesting to see what the percentage or ratio of Scooby conversions is now in 2018, what it was five years ago and what it is in five years time. I also think it’s just not such a crazy move for reliability etc and the quality of the regular air cooled motors and parts etc etc is just getting worserer and worserer every single year :shock: I’m in the dilemma as well, a couple of years back I got a brand spanking new motor from a well known outlet thinking it would be fit and forget and I couldn’t have been more wide of the target. I’ve also got a 2litre and six rib box under the bench.

Not had experience with them on a bus, but would have to agree with Stuf on the protech’s they are a very nice bit of kit had pretty much all another makes on classic minis the spax’s are good on price and easy to adjust the Gaz are ok but so heavy ! (Now on my rally mini)KONI you have to take off to adjust the Protech’s tick all the boxes

Has anyone ever shelled out on KONI for there bus, though I’m talking stock height they are strong money at 269 :shock:

Yes the shocks are fine, been on five years. Start them in the centre and adjust to suit.
