Hi all,
Hope someone can help shed some light on the possible cause of an engine shudder I'm getting at low revs in first gear.

I took the bus for a spin a couple of weekends ago. Had no problems on the way to our destination but on the way home pulling away in 1st gear was causing a noticeable shudder through out the bus. It was freaking scary doing hill starts!
The shudder doesn't last all the way through the rev range and is gone by the time second is needed.

When I was parking I did give the exhaust a bit of a bump as I was reversing on a big kerb!

Engine is a 1600 single carb.

My money is on the clutch release bearing, either way best get the engine out to investigate.

Agree with Mark - I had the same, but mine was caused by having the wrong clutch for my release bearing. This became unseated and caused slippage and judder.

Actually, that isn't entirely true. I did have the wrong clutch in, but to be fair it had been in for about 5 years and had been fine. The cause was the standing starts on the Top Gear track 8)

As Mark says, best have a look for piece of mind.

Sounds like the Bowden tube to me, i had this with my old late bay, the tube is the flexi part that takes the cable up to the 'box, worth replacing first as its a cheap fix, if i remember its all about getting the 'bend' in the right angle.
