The saga continues...............................
Had another test drive yesterday(sat) and i'm not happy with the steering. It doesn't wander but sort of tightens up when going straight!. Very odd feeling indeed. After much umming and arrhing, i've come to the conclusion that its down to unusual movement in the trailing arms.
When you fit a red9 kit to a standard beam you replace the torsion leaves with their tie bar, this holds the trailing arms on and they swivel in the beam on the og roller bearings. When you fit a weedeater it has no roller bearings, in place of those ce use a polyurethane bush. This is where is gets complicated..... The weedeater beam is supposed to be used with a narrowed torsion spring, this spring as well as acting as suspension helps keep a solid structure to the trailing arms so they have no play and they only move in the up/down intended way. The problem with the steering i think is the trailing arms moving slightly side to side other than up and down due to the " lack of structure" caused by mixing polyurethane bushes with the red 9 tie bar. That again probably doesn't make any sense and i thought about not posting this due to the fact it is really hard to explain in text.
Anyway how do you fix it??
Simon (red9) comes to the rescue again!!!!
and has offered to make some replacement bronze bushes to replace the polyurethane ones which will give the trailing arms a solid structure and fix the steering problem. At first i thought it may be a camber issue on the frt but i think its something more than this. So Vanfest is looking a dodgy for me again.
Got up early this morning and stripped the entire front suspension again. lol
Just one of things i suppose that happens when your trying to do something that hasn't been done before, i'll get there in the end i'm sure.
