This excellent 40 year old Westfalia Camper was purchased in Germany and includes a number of original German documents from it's purchase. It was owned by 2 gentleman, the first who returned it to the High Desert of Washington State until the the late 1990's, with the second gentleman retiring to an Assisted Living Home where his camper sat unused for a number of years across town. Very, very large folder of receipts documents mileage into the high 90,000miles with an engine rebuild occurring at I believe 96,000? The camper was then given to a 3rd party who put a few thousand miles on her with the last owner only putting 50 or so miles the last few years of her life. Odometer reads 2-3000 miles now, this is an under 105,000 mile Westy Camper!
The body is in excellent condition, I polished a small area on the upper passenger nose and she shines right up. Spend a couple of hours polishing her and you have 1 incredible camper! Appears to be ALL original paint except for the rear driver lower panel that was resprayed at some point. Inside of the engine compartment shows where she was hammerred out, no filler/bondo on her(see photobucket pics). Rockers and front floors are Excellent. Body is excellent except for a few very, very minor dings. The 2 rear sliding door panels are dinged up but they unscrew off and can be replaced and repaired and colormatched. I've owned a lot of bay window early vans, this is the most solid body I've had. Battery tray is rusted through and that is the worst of the bodywork needed.
Under the front windshield area looks perfect!!!!! This camper has been kept garaged for most of her 40 years.
There is an external fan/AC unit on the rear top but does not turn on, know idea if it's even plugged in?
Interior is clean with a felt style covers throughout. Original vinyl flooring looks excellent!
Cabinets are all clean and very good condition, some of the inner cabinet door handles have been replaced w/ non VW handles. I believe there are 2/3? blinds that were installed above 2 of the side windows, these were screwed into the wood ceiling panels but if removed I believe one could carefully try and fill the holes if wanted to make less noticeable. Poptop canvas was replaced at some point, it's functional but I'd consider replacing w/ a nice new original style color? Poptop seal is newer.
Front seat section is excellent with the original underseat matts looking great. Great front floor rubber, awesome floors underneath the matts too.
Nice dash, a few small cracks but minor. Nice original front door panels with the chrome style door pulls & window cranks.
Working cassette stereo.
1 key works all the handles and ignition!
Electrical- The flasher lights on speedo stay on, there is a short somewhere? Horn does not work?
Haven't had any time to problem solve but wiring underneath dash looks clean and is probaly only a bulb, and loose wire?
Mechanically, the paperwork shows engine is still pretty fresh. she starts right up, takes a few minutes to warm up as it has a Weber style carb on her. shifts and steers fine, brakes need an adjustment or new shoes? I've only driven her a few miles and always reccommend a complete tune Up and lookover.
This camper has seen very little road for a number of years, and the paperwork history is awesome. Very low mileage camper that has had every problem dealt with in the past. No metal panels to replace except for the battery tray, this is the kind of camper you want to invest in, the integrity is all there and a good polish will bring out an awesome shine!
Behind the spare tire bracket on the nose is the original emblem as well, nose looks great.
Still has part of the original factory script on the sliding door handle area. also still has the original engine lid seals, both of which are often long gone from use, repaint etc.
Hubcap from missing pictures is included. also have the Childs cot for the front and a Mosquito net for the rear.
Wood paneling inside is in great original condition. Needs the poptop opening seal to go over the inside lip, I may be able to provide a replacement. I've tried to describe this camper in both words and pictures, please feel free to request specific photo areas and I'll do my best to post them.
Clean Washington State Title, Price includes delivery to Long Beach Port. Buyer is responsible for all UK import and duty taxes as well as MOT. I can provide UK/Early Bay references as well.
My home number is 760-749-9818 Pacific time, after 7AM and before 10PM if you have any questions.
You can always replace metal and put on new paint, but you can't always go OG patina and look as nice as this one. This is a great camper that will only go up in value with no surprises popping back up in a couple of years!
