It's time for something new and therefore time to say goodbye to my old trusted, loved and Low Volkswagen T2a Deluxe (aka Lefty on this forum) from 1969. A great nice, well-driving 'head turner'! More info in my thread http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=48447 (Sorry for the missing pics in the thread)
A lot of work has been done on this earlybay. The bus came from America to the Netherlands in December 2011, and the first few years worked on it a lot. The whole bottom is made bald, welded on inner porch, battery plate and rear corner, then pretreated with RX5, black painted with RX10, bodyschütz and then painted in blue color.
The bus is serious lowered and completed with an airride setup. Lowered and narrowed front beam with dropped spindles from Volksprojects, at the rear with Gabriel air suspension shocks and Slamwerk spring plates. The airride compressor and valves located where the spare wheel is normally located. Airride adjustment made in ashtray. There is a 'used' 1776 cc mounted after the death of the 1835. The customized coolinghouse, 40 mm double Weber carburators, vintage-speed exhaust etc. are all built over. In 2013, replace the fuel line and also install a fuel relay from CSP.
I bought a new gearbox and adjusted it by Volksprojects. A new crown & pawn has been introduced to adjust the gearbox ratio (longer 4th gear). Unfortunately, the rear gear was broken last year, so the gearbox has been re-examined and like new. Now just re-assembled: it's only 20 km drive yet. Braking is all tackled. New Master Brake Cylinder installed in 2013, and then the rear with new brake pads, brake shoes etc. and the front brakes has got a serious make-over with Porsche 944 disc brakes. The rims (BBT Sprintstars) are neat, front tires must be replaced within some time, but that can be arranged when bought.
The outside of the bus is largely as it came from America. An American layer of paint with the original lacquer ... the blank pieces (where Lefty has made its name) have been treated with Owatrol Rustoleum. Lots of new rubbers (if necessary with the deluxe chromelists of course). Only rubber rubbers in front doors, and the 3 rear windows need to be replaced. Bumpers + supports are sprayed and sprayed 'old'. Also a handy roof rack (2/3 length) that fits the look of the bus.
Inside: Both front seats are good, (new upholstery in USA). Extra meters for oil pressure and oil temperature, cleared airride pressure gauges in dashboard cabinet. The central bank is missing, the back seat looks a little sad, but sits still fantastic. A plywood floor was laid which is carpeted. Panels are already made and ready to cover to your like and desire. Behind the panels it is already isolated! The full sky cover is still very neat, one shop hook, but nothing disturbing. Small Minus: The suspension mechanism of the tailgate was broken on one side. This should be made correct for proper operation.
