What difference do the numbers on a solex carb make, I.E what is the difference between a 28 pict and 34 pict , looking at replaceing one on my bug ( not a bay i know ) do not want to put the wrong one on and stuff it up!

Hiya dave,

The number preceeding "PICT3" (or what have you) is the diameter of the carburetor throat. Turn the carburetor upside down and measure the throat opening that sits just atop the intake manifold flange and you'll see that it corresponds to that first two digit number in the model designation.

FWIW OE (generally speaking here) carburetors up through the 1967 model year were 28PICTs, from 1968 through 1970 they were 30PICTs, and starting in 1971 34PICTs.
