Hi!

Fitted some new wheels and tyres on the bus today, had a look at the non working speedo, found that it looks like the cable is pushed too far into the hub, so not making contact with the square hole in the dustcover - so any ideas what is missing/wrong? The cable will pull out a little, but cant seem to get it to fit in the hole, as soon as the hammer the cover on, it pushes the cable back.

Hi!

Thanks for that. Just gotta get one now.........I guess it's obvious where the clip goes?

I think so but then mine is attached

the speedo cable end is pulled through the dust seal and the seats in the square section if you look on the end of the cable that square section has a groove the idea is the clip prevents what is happening to yours ie keeps pulling back.

I do have a pic somewhere..........

I'd say the end of the cable looks a bit flattened? Will it fit through the hole in the cap? the cable usually has a chamfered edge to ease it through the hole?

Photo of cable end, ok a snapped one  , but you get the idea

Hi!

Thanks for the reply. I think the cable will fit in the hole, but cant try as it pushes back, the c clip fits on the cable stopping it going to far in - whilst sticking out enough to fit in the square hole on the dustcap?

Cheers!

With the wheel off you should be able to hold the cable in position from the rear of the hub ,whilst you locate the end into the cap. Then grip the cable end with a pair of pliers and knock the cap into position. If you don't have a c clip put a twist wire around the groove, mine had this temp bodge for about 6 months. :)

Thanks for that - fingers crossed the cable end is ok. I'll get a clip, should be fixed, funny how it managed to work, then one day not, must have done 1500-2000 miles without it working, just use the gps! ;)
