i have a starting problem!!! i have bought a new starter and the problem is the same as the old starter, it only turns the engine about a quarter of a turn but the engine is nice and free to turn over buy hand. The starter is drawing lots of currant so i changed the earth lead on the battery as this was abit rubbish (still the same) checked other earth straps ALL OK cleaned mating face of gearbox-starter still no joy. Only thing i have not done is change the bush in the gearbox which the starter locates in IS THIS VITAL FOR THE STARTER TO WORK!!!! i have had the starter running fine out of the bus! i dont want to take the engine out to fit the bush to find i still have the same issue,
ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GRATEFULL CHEERS :?

i have not tried putting a lead from the starter to the battery as soon as the snow clears i will give it a go cheers! It will tell me if i have a problem with the ignition part of my loom or a fault at the switch RIGHT!

yeah, they often go high resistance and tend offer a large drop due to length, often its a good idea to fit a hot start relay in the engine bay with the ignition switch merely operating the relay and having all that current flowing through the bus.

PROBLEM SORTED!! It was the bush in the gearbox! after proving the wiring was not at fault i had to drop the engine and replace the bush(the old one was a half moon shaped slither!) So now there is a bush the starter turns lovely and the bus fires up on the button :D :D :D
