Hi,

I am just about to fit my new starter motor. The top bolt that goes through the gearbox has the D shape on one end, but there is nothing on the starter motor to stop it from turning - the whole bolt just spins. The old starter motor top lug looks the same - am I missing another part?

Thanks

That is what I thought - but I think there is nothing for it to jam against on the new starter - I will check again this evening.

I had the same problem. Think some aftermarket starter motors don't have the notch for the D bolt to wedge in to. Think I had to jam something up there to stop it turning while I tightened it.

Ye same with my new starter motor. Think you can get a spanner on it which then jams against the casing, real pain though!!

If i have the bolt out again i will put some weld along the flat edge which will then make it jam, if that makes sense.

I did not think that £75 for a starter motor was cheap - shame on you VW Heritage!
