Morning everyone I’ve just put new oil and seals in my steering box on my 1971 bay as it’s never been off from new and when I’ve gone to refit it I have realised there are no splines in the coupling that clamps on to the top of steering box and looks like it’s never had them as the splines on the steering box are perfect and I can’t see any wear in the clamp is this normal??? it’s tightened up ok but now I’ve seen it I can’t un see it and I’m twitching 😂😂😂😂. Thanks in advance

Hi , I have several steering parts from t3/25 and the rag coupling on these are not splined they just rely on the clamping effect so you should be ok. I think if all the splines had worn away you would have noticed.

Just wondering how difficult the strip and rebuild was ? Next job to do for me. 🌈👍

They’re fairly straightforward to strip down and reassemble, but I guess it’s a case of what you find once you’re in there.

I did the seals on mine the other year. Stripped and thoroughly cleaned then refilled with Penrite, Schofields have many steering box parts / gaskets / seals etc.

I have the luxury of having a spare so can refurb at my leisure, but unless you find something untoward and you can get the pitman arm off in the first place, then it’s a rewarding job 👍
