Big leak inside van has been traced to rusted thru drain, plan is to re route a new tube line down side of window and cut new holes in floor and cill-oh joy!!
Anyone else had this problem?
what was your solution?
also what diameter pipe do i need to slip over the sunroof drain hole spigot??
cheers Paul

Hi paul, had the same problem with mine (72 crossover). Very hard to go down pillars without cutting and drilling etc plus someone had welded over the outlets to the centre drains. I used a hose that fitted snug into the existing short plastic hoses at the front( about 10mm from homebase). I ran these to the back drains and teed to the plastic hose on the back then ran a hose through the outlet in the air intake and down to the floor/battery tray then through the floor so it drained out onto the ground. this pipe is small enough to feed over the roof braces behind the head lining and through the existing outlet where the air intake is. my middle drains have been blocked off at the mo, I may try to open up the original middle drain holes and sleeve some hose down them or T into the new plastic pipes later on. The T pieces I got from B&Q gardening dept ,they also had some larger hose that may fit over the metal part if you want to try another way. Hope some of this makes sense, trial and error really, much easier if your doing a resto and can remove the headlining als a good idea to fit some kind of seal around the sunroof itself to slow the entry of water down.

good luck which ever road you take cos they are a great thing when they work 8)

Almost good news to know its not just my bad luck!
Have you any photos of what you have done as it sounds easier than my plan!!
cheers Paul

No photos im afraid ,I did it by moving as little of the headlining as poss, the rear drain is easier to get at, you just need to remove the hinge covers, I will try to draw it and post the pic. If you go on the Samba there is quite a bit about this problem in the U.S. where the sunroof is more common, some people have bypassed it others like to fit a vinyl cover with press studs over the roof when not in use etc. If only the steel pipes were accesible they could be replaced with plastic cable conduit.

Can't believe you mentioned plastic cable conduiting as i was considering that as an alternative to the metal tube.
thanks for the tip about the rear drain being visible with the hinge plate removed I will look into that.
regards paul

Does anyone have any pics of these sunroof drain hole spigots?

I have a pop up that was converted to sunroof. I need the parts that the hoses connect to before I can even think about rebuilding the cable system.

As far as im aware westys and probably a few other pop ups used the sunroof bus shell but didnt fit the drain tubes. Check the B post pillar see if you can see anything inside and remove the rear hinge cover, just behind the hinge should be the rear spigot if it has one. If you look on the samba forum and type in sunroof there is quite a bit on the subject and some pics of what your looking for.

I have accessed the samba site-gone to t2 forums and then done a search for sunroof-still looking for pics however.
Is there a better way of searching the site?
cheers paul

Hi Paul, go to thesamba.com website and click on gallery, once there click on search and enter sunroof as your keyword. In catagories click on 68-79 bus - Deluxes then enter. There is also stuff on the other 68-79 catagories you can then pick up the threads from the pics. There are other ways but Im one of those who just clicks on things and then forgets what ive done  Will let you know if I find anything else.
