I'm removing my front beam and wanted to remove the trailing arms and hub assembly first (to make things more manageable and lighter).

I've removed the road wheels, calipers, disks, track rods and anti-roll bar. I've also removed the nuts/allen screws from the torsion arms but the arms are hard against the bumpstops and I'm having trouble withdrawing the torsion arms - is it simply a case of tapping them out with a hide hammer? If so, where's the best place to tap them?

Also, would it be advantageous to cut off the bump stops at this stage (the beam ends are shagged anyway - hence new beam going in) and if I do will there be any problems?

Didn't have this problem when I did the same on Joy's Bug!

cheers

Cut the bump stops off if you want, will remove tension from the trailing arms, or a smack with a big hammer will also help a lot ;)
Mine had a massive amount of suction due to the grease in the beam, once this was overcome they came out easy enough.

Think I will cut off the bumpstops - there's certainly loads of room to get in there with the calipers out of the way.
There's loads of grease in the beam so you're probably right about the suction effect - I'll break out the bigger hammer tomorrow!!

On an aside, what else do I need to disconnect to remove the beam?
