I have a VDO Oil Temp gauge and a pressure gauge. The temp gauge has stopped working. Positive and earth are all good and the sender lead looks ok. When I take the sender lead off the 'PRESSURE' gauge the needle goes off the scale, but when I take it off the 'TEMP' gauge it does not. Does this indicate the gauge is knackered?
I tried testing the temp sender itself (coming off the sump) but putting it on a multimeter and the other end on an earth and measuring the resistance. Not sure what I was supposed to see though! It definately went up to about 4ohms I think and started at 1ohm but I expected it to go up higher as the engine got hotter.
The other question is that the temp gauge is in 'Farenheiht'. Can I get a celcius gauge to replace it if the other is knackered? Or do I need to get a matching sender to match?
Thanks
