Van looks great, reminiscing over CJ 2018, the weather the football, great times
Weather not suited to my pale complexion [emoji23] But it has made us both realise how we miss having the calendar full of shows etc... gutting as one by one event after event has been cancelled.

Roll on 2021!

We managed to sneak a week away recently over to the Isle of Wight, just as lockdown ended. Stayed on an awesome campsite (Windmill Campersite) which folks might recognise if they watched the TV show recently where a group of celebrities went camping on the island.

Our pitch was next to ‘Galahad’ the old helicopter.

And the facilities all have a very communal feel to them, including a cinema, fire pit, bbq, jacket potato oven, silent disco and a converted double decker bus for washing, fridge and microwave facilities.

Had a relaxing week with much time spent on the quieter parts of the beaches.

The bus behaved itself, and my new breather setup seems to be working fine... pictures of that to follow at some point.

One thing to note, don’t get over ambitious and drive through fords of unknown depth in a lowered bus... there was some bum clenching when I realised that the water was level with the door line [emoji51]

I think I lost this post in amongst the forum being updated, so hopefully round two works.

It’s been a while since I last updated this thread, but I guess most people have had a similarly quiet last couple of years.

I’ve always wanted some useful under dash storage shelves, and thought it’d be an interesting project to make something myself. I used the template that Merlydog kindly posted on here a while ago and set to work cutting and routering a frame. The edges were rounded off so as to avoid any frayed weaving and some countersunk tee nuts added so that I could add screws for mounting in the bus.

Next I set about with my interpretation of Danish weaving… slightly different as I didn’t want to add nails on the inside to loop the twine around. Took a guess at the length required and what might look alright and got cracking with some weaving.

It probably wasn’t the easiest shape to try for a first attempt but here it is started:

Very clever and looking forward to seeing the finished article (hope it worth the wait....)

And as if by magic, the finished effort:

Obviously the drivers side has a mirror-image one! I knocked up a few brackets using some aluminium strip that I may paint black to blend them in a little better with the dash area. I didn’t want to be drilling holes all over the place to mount them, so two of them pick up on original bolts, and the only ones I had to add was on the handbrake support bracket.

Handy for chucking the wallet and shades on!!

They look great!
Have you got a pic from a bit further back to see them both in situ please 😁👍

looks good to me :)
How much did they set you back in the end?
The twine was the most expensive part, it is 1kg of 3mm unpolished flax twine and with postage was just under £30. I didn’t use the full reel, but certainly used more than half of it. The MDF was just from some 19mm off-cuts I had lying around, but probably less than a tenner. And then the tee nuts and Allen bolts were probably no more than a fiver from Screwfix.

There’s probably a cheaper way of doing it using a different weaving material; I was trying to blend it in to match our cab mat material!

That’s a great end result.
You must be really happy with how they’ve turned out.
So much nicer than those black plastic versions. 👍
