Hey Turkish, give yourself a little time maybe even find some dry storage for it over winter, give it a good coat of wax and some waxoyl for the underside and cavities, if dry store is not a option purchase a proper cover and walk away until spring. My children are the reason for me buying the van ( sold all my motorcycles to fund the van) I am not in any vw club or scene... other than EB  .
I live near Newquay and have never even been to " run to the sun" but we go local camping, bmx riding together and picnics whenever the sun shines or just load up the surfboards and get out for a paddle, when we return to the van there is always people there ready to ask questions or tell stories of the time they had one ( and now regret selingl it ) My little boys face lights up when i tell him we are going in the camper, we also have a 10 month old so i understand that with kids you dont get out as often as you used to but look forward to it when you do and treat each event as a mini holiday. It works for our family.

Ultimately you have to do whats best for you, but! Depending on your situation financially, if you sell the van the money will get lost on holidays, fitted kitchens or a daily car and the rate at which vans appreciate it may be a difficult purchase to make again in the future.

In your situation, Id say forget the VW 'scene' or at least, dont depend on it and use the van for the family ... that also helps being able to just maintain it without the pressure on constant modification ;) Just get out and enjoy it :)

That's what we do :D He says just back from a night in the van at a local campsite with his 4 year old boy ... I feel like I had half a nights sleep  ... but to him it was all one big adventure and he loved it 8)

We've had our van since 96 and it's been a rolling repair since we replaced the sils/ arches/ steps/ outriggers and rear quarters, to get it on the road. It looks tatty for periods We've repainted it twice so far. Would you do this for any other vehicle? Some great memories holidaying with our kids. One time we took 11 people to a local beauty spot for a picnic. For a number of years we had the tradition of doing Blackpool lights with another 4 members of our extended family on board. Complete with PA system to cheer up rain soaked holiday makers with funny quips. It's just begun it's second term as my ladder platform to work from. great fun :D
