turn indicator

Sorry if I asked this before but just started looking at it like the next thing to fix.
On my 71 do you have to remove the steering wheel to replace the turn signal on the steering column?
I have read two books one says yes and one says no, not sure and how hard is it to do?
Anything I should be aware of?

for the avoidance of doubt...........ive just changed mine and no you dont need to remove the wheel ......good luck
