URGENT ADVICE needed on my gearbox

sorry i know this isn't for general section but need advice asap.
i can't get 1st or 2nd and before i took it off the road i struggled to get 2nd coming out of 1st and could hardly ever get 2nd dropping down out of 3rd and now put my engine back in and fitted one of the gear coupling square bit (thingy) on the end of my gear linkage rod (if that makes sense) I can't get 1st or 2nd any ideas?
Or am I looking at a recon box if so wheres best up my way in Leicsester and should i get a late bay box and what do i need to fit it to my 69
need to get it running before friday!

Loosen the two bolts at the base of the gear shifter, have a play about until you can find gears and tighten up.

Cheapest test before shelling out. :wink:

What condition is the rest of the linkage in?
Have you tried changing gear with the linkage disconnected and a vice grips on the selector stick (with something to prevent damage)
