welcome one and all to the new Splinter group recently born in the Devon section on SSVC, but open to all comers of all denominations......

Vintage
Awning
Anoraks
Club

The rules are simple...this is a post to post pictures, discuss and generally geek out about anything canvas , damp or slightly foisty smelling
caravan awnings
period bus awnings
vintage tents

anything go`s

if its canvas, faded, has poles and you can get it up, your welcome here

so please, lets see all your pictures, any geeky info you have, links to external geeks, story`s of hot nights with stale moist erections :drunken:

i`ll start with the timeless U.K Volkswagon 70`s classic, the Devon Motent

this is a circa 1972`s ish model

newawning040.jpg

complete with rubberized yellow groundsheet 8) 8)
newawning057.jpg

the side entrance door on this early model, velco`d across the top and folded at one side to roll back into the side, zipped at the other side

nice BIG window for spying on your fellow campers...or undressing in front of 8O
newawning036.jpg

Generally attached to side of the bus via the awning rail pre-ditted to devon conversions, but also sociably acceptable to hang off the back for that continental vibe

ladys & Gentlemen, I give your the early devon Mo-money, Motent

Dont know the name for these ones ???

but there are loads around in the UK still...pressumable splitty period as the internal door works perfect on cargo doors, but not so good for a slider

majority of them come in orange / blue scheme

70`s bay window period westfalia awning - Jungion

great design as you`ll know if you`ve ever seen / used one - a classic with its external frame and built in floor...a doddle to erect with just one man  makes a great indoor pool too if you have a leak

splitscreen period

Devon day awning

standard with the devon carravette, the sun canopy with (Y)awning frame
awning027-1.jpg

awning028.jpg

attaches to the awning rail that was fitted to the roof of devon conversions and can be rolled up and fastened in situ for travelling

Devon also offered as optional extras the lower skirt you see in the 1st 2 pictures, this was also help on by an awning rail along the rocker and 3 press studs around the wheel arch

with the optional skirt came the zip on sides, coming in 2 halfs to give a good combination of set ups

Devon also offered the contact details for Awning makers Harrisons of Bristol, who would provide a freestanding awning if the Devon customers required one..

this is a 66/67 model

slightly earlier Devon / Harrison standa lone awning

this one has the slightly off set and longer front legs...and straighter shorter rear ones...making the poles slightly challenging to put up, like a flippin rubix cube

Very early Devon bay awning, pre Motent, 67-68 ish

need to finish making (or find some original) poles for this
nice canopy with sides , with detachable front and side skirt

sale024.jpg

sale023.jpg

No idea what this is

same construction as the Devon day canopy, same cloth, same buckles to hold it once rolled up, same length, but not as wide, and cant for the life of me work out where the pole go ???

zips down 3/4 of the length on both sides, hooks to attach it to roof rack ? or pole clamped to the gutters ?
has sleeves for poles along the 3 sides, but no way of getting the poles in...or holes in the corners for pole spikes to come threw ??

perhaps a Dormobile version of the devon day canopy ???
very early devon canopy ????

who knows

but its for sale

lovely bright yellow canopy with sides from germany

my bus is too low for the sides to be taught, and the curve at the front of a splitty gutter doesnt work to well, as this is the exact length of the gutters, so better suited to a bay @ standard hieght

has press studs along the front, so pressume it had a pop on front at somepoint - but thats not with it

awnings001.jpg

my new favourite awning :)

friend found it for me @ camperjam

its called an INVADER, its british and i love it, you certainly wont miss your van when your drunk
looks to me to be the exact same construction as the 64-66 Devon car tent., but a bit more colourfull and badged different

i`m gonna have to make some legs shortened by about 5 inches to make it fit my lowered bus nicely
