I know BVF used to have a separate camping charge, but they scrapped that system a few years ago. I reckon folk would stomach say a £5 per head increase, but this is quite a hike proportionally . I'd estimate most vans have two paying adults in? So this is almost a £10 per head rise. For singlies it's a big old hit ...

For the record, I'll still be going and sorting a club pitch. It's still the biggest and best(?) Type 2 event, imo.

I really wish i'd dragged by arse out of bed on the Saturday of last years show

If you had put your bus in the "every year" line up you got in to this years show for free!!!!

:D

To be honest the cost of the fuel for shows will probably be a much bigger factor for most year, I guess the difference for me and you for Vanfest is more £60 than the £20?

It's reversed for Euro events though! :(

looks like i'll just be doing a day trip again then!

but if you think thats expensive..... work out the sums on this one....

plymouth volksfest (only been going for 3 years or so)

adult weekend ticket incl a booking fee £48
13-16 yr olds weekend ticket incl booking fee £32
6-12 yr old weekend ticket incl booking fee £5.50
under 5's get in free, but there is still a booking fee!!!! 50p
vw camping pitch incl booking fee £2.50

so if me and lara wanted to go and hyperthetically we had a 14 yr old and an 11yr old it would cost us....

.....er....hang on....

.....£136!!!!!!!!!

and thats before you even consider beer food and fuel
f#ck right off!!!!!

We have not been for a few years and the last time we camped it was "Toyota-fest" as the camper had disgraced itself again and the brakes died the day before.

My view is that Vanfest is now the "tick in the box" that all new owners do, when they buy the vehicle they have always dreamed of, spend a fortune with all the "names" getting it restored, show it in Camper & Bus then flog it a year or two later. I can see what the organisers are doing, trying to get the entertainment there, but there lies the problem. Muse are not going to go there, unless tickets are jacked up a lot and if the entry price is cheap, you only get washed up has-beens or cover bands.

The other thing to factor is they know they can sell all their tickets, a bit like Manchester United, who can charge what they like because the stadium is always full. We will go to a couple this year, Bus Types and Camperjam are my favourites.

dont you mean Norwich?

That hurt, Carrow road is always ful, but us simple country folks only pay in carrots

I'm sorry please lets not turn this into a football thread

CHRIST ON BIKE!

Admittedly this is probably a bit too far for me to go in terms of pleasure fuel, but even if I could NO WAY AT THIS PRICE   I think too many people have jumped on the VW band wagon and are trying to get as much out of it as they can until the bubble burst's.

A couple of years ago me and a few mates went to Flamborough, stayed on a campsite that let us have a fire in a proper fire box it was very cheap to stay on and we all said how much more we enjoyed compared to the same old shows we have all been doing for the last million years.

There's a lot to be said for old skool 8)

only a "lady" to get in!!!!!

ive bought my first vw bay in 1992 and discoverd the vw scene i paid £600 for the van, and the first vw event we went to as a family, 1 x 8 month baby 1 x 3 year old 1 x 6 year old 2 x adults was vanfest i think we paid about £30 for the weekend, and there was something for all of us. as the price crept up we stopped going because it wasnt a cheap 4 day break and that was why i bought the van.as did a lot of people. its nice to know some things dont change my van although an older model is still the best at what it was designed for by far, commuter by week, camper on a week end. and as dependable as ever. the scene is still friendly, welcoming ,and filled with some off the most generous people you can come across. and you dont need to look beyond this site for evidence of that .but the scene is slowly changing  as the humble aircooled transporter becomes a fashion accessory and the in place to be seen is at the overpriced vw events containing some very expensive simply must have accesories .means you need very deep pockets these days.from the humble hippy of the sixtys to the j.olivers of today in the vw scene were divided by the type of vw we own and this is a division of friendly rivalry [ except for the late bays].....no im only joking ..but i dont want to see a division based on class and this is what some events are doing. :(

Tricky one, this...

Went two years ago with the bus, went for family camping, got there at 4 on Friday and ended up shoe-horned into the corner of a field with not even enough room to push the little one's buggy out between us and the car next door. But plenty going on, especially for the kids and loads of traders, so all good. In and out of the grown-up entertainment, excellent.

Went last year, in the daily as the Bus was cooking and with friends, went for general camping, arrived a bit earlier and loads of space. Kids found friends, plenty of room to run around, wasn't too noisy, great camping. However, show was absolutely identical - and I do mean identical - to the previous year, even down to traders in the same spot with the same stuff, same cheesy Dj in the daytime music hall and annoyingly, no kids disco.

However, for me, the most frustrating aspect was having paid £70 for a family of four to get in, to then be asked for another £40 to go and see Bad Manners (cost me nothing 30 years ago...) and a bunch of losers off the telly... I think not.

I agree that Vanfest is one of the boxes that must be ticked but for me, it only needs ticking once.

Lots of other shows this year, with something for everyone. Santa Pod's not far away, so BB, BJ and VWA beckon, as well as BBreeze and maybe Chill-&-Grill - looks like it could be fun. If anyone can tell me what a 'Lady' is - I've never come across one...

Lady Godiva = £5

Well, you won't be seeing us there this year. Done two on the bounce but the price this year is too much for me, especially after not being able to go into the main tent last year. Might just have to do the Grill n chill though. Looks fun.

And feel we give Value for Money

March the 1st adult price is £15 per Adult

we spoke to them before the last show and we didnt think it was "to bad" that if you didnt want to see the music you didnt have to pay for it, which is ok for us as we entertain our selves
but i think because most people probably opted out they lost out, which is probably why its hiked up this time.

just had a look at Dubs at the Castle an looks like a great show unfortunately wont be able to make it as i'll be away then but id love to have something similar locally.

i think this year its going to be, bug jam, RTTS (tie it into a few weeks surfing down there), camper jam an bus stop over but other than that most other weekends will be away surfing getting FREEEEEEEE camping , managed 3 months this year straight of taking the van away every weekend and would do that over going shows any time but the shows are good for inspiration and messiness
